    Diesel Bike

Did anyone see Orange County Chopper episode tonight? They build a chopper for a diesel fuel additive company in Maryland. They used a chopper frame with a Briggs&Stratton 34 hp diesel engine. It actually worked, but they were showing two other projects in the same hour and a lot of the build was skipped over. I was disappointed. Still interesting. I wonder how many pdft of torque it put out.

I can't stand those morons. So the answer is no, I didn't see it. The Germans build Diesel bikes may years ago so it's nothing new...

That's about the guts of it

Do a Google search for a Triumph Tiger with a Lombardini diesel. Seems to work fine and the supercharged version sounds good

Let me guess, it looks like every other bike they have ever produced with different colors and accents but with a diesel engine?

I bet it gets great mileage though. hehe. Nothing cooler than that large puff of black smoke on a non computer controlled diesel when you pour the coals to it.

I watched the show off and on for the first couple of seasons but it got old with all the fighting. It seemed like the first 1 to 2 years the fights were real. The last time I tried watching all the fights seemed staged. I remember reading an interview with the Mythbusters guys. They were pressed by their producers to get into fights to gain more viewers but the guys decided against it, so this also makes me believe the fights between the chopper guys are mostly fake.

Another reason I don't like watching them anymore is their company just got too big, the bikes they make are all coporate sponsored now, and they moved away from how they do it to a just a drama show.

They're morons in more than one way...

Back when they were still building bikes the common man could buy (if you call a guy who can write a $60K check 'common'), one of their customers had the fork neck break off the frame.... while he was riding it. He survived the wreck and needless to say, complained back to these knuckleheads.

                  Their response?

'Our motorcycles are display models only, and aren't meant for normal use..."

It seems their warranty only extends to their property line.

                      No more wires!

A Diesel bike will do away with all of the ignition wiring.
So long as it has a kickstart, the starter motor can go too.
That only leaves the lights. Switching to acetylene lighting lets you dispense with the wiring altogether, along with the battery and alternator. Signals will be a problem. Perhaps a clockwork rotating screen mechanism?

                          Nah,
it's my long-time resentment about the XS11 having a wiring harness that's thicker than a donkey's dick and riddled with mystery modules besides; while my old BSA 250 gets away with using only seven wires. OK, nine wires if you want signals.

                            Seeing as

You feel that way about an XS loom, dont go near an FJ. Seems that some bright spark at Yamaha designed the wiring while hallucinating. They are worse, and then someone (me) got a bright idea while half pissed (drunk) and finally decided in the clear light of sobriety the best option was to get a new loom from wreckers. Nowadays I get friend from Wodonga (just over the river) who knows lot more than me to do it. Amazing how much work he will do in exchange for 1.5 litres of moonshine.

If you think the wiring on the XJ is nuts, you have to see the wiring on one of the new Yamaha V twins....
