help,xs1100s,runs but starts cutting out

Have 1980 xs1100 special always runs great but now when held at steady speed starts cutting out,hit gas and she runs great only happens after she warms up for ten miles and shut off at restart problem begins,going along 3000 to 4000 rpm in high gear and its like motor starts to switch off but comes right back,hit gas problem goes away but get at steady speed and comes right back!!! anyone have any imput or have had same problem,ive never had problem with bike before this always been great and reliable bike,phil
