I just survive the largest quake I have been in so far (6.5). It was about 30 miles away and 13 miles deep. It really made the logarithmic nature of the Richter Scale real. I thought the 5.2 I was in a couple years ago was scary. This was definately 100+ times worse ( as a 6 quake has 100x more power than a 5). I am just glad it wasn't the inevitable event my bike is named after.

I know how you feel, we had a 7.8 in the middle of last year that was only 7.5 miles deep. Fortunately it was about 90 miles away, in a remote part of Fiordland, but it still rattled plenty of cages here.1980 SG. (Sold - waiting on replacement)

Hu-m-m-m, which is worse?
I grew up in the Tornadow Belt and have many twister tales to tell.! I Have also experienced a rather severe earth quake, i.e. Loma Prieta. Tornadoes give a little warning. They are usually accompanied by bad weather.
Earth quakes, on the other hand, usually strike without warning and often on very nice days. While the damage is usually more widespread in a quake, it isn't usually as completely devastating as the concentrated damage from a twister.
On the whole I think I had rather ride a Harley.
Special EdOld bikers never die, they're just out of sight!
My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
I've been riding since 1959.

I hope you didn't lose power for too long! I know the area up there, and a LOT of people are trying to get by with no power, water, or much help! Take care!Ray Matteis

I was in Santa Rosa during the 89 quake. That was bad enough, and I had quite a few friends who lived in the SF and Oakland areas as well. It was a bit disconcerting that even though we were out of the destruction area our phone system was basically not working so we couldn't call family to let them know we were ok, since they were not sure we weren't hard in it at the time. (It was taking up to 40 minutes to get dialtone and then most of the time it wouldn't actually dial once you got it).
Fortunately I was involved in an amateur BBS network at the time and the phone system was working at 2 or 3 in the morning so I was able to get messages out to friends involved in the network in the Sacramento area who were able to let family know we were ok, even if it was the next day.Cy

Oh, and tornadoes. Been there done that, not any fun. They are easy to out run though, where as I imagine that an earthquake is pretty hard to out run...Ich habe dich nicht gefragt.

As a native of California. I've been through many quakes. The '89 DID rock me a LOT, as I was about 11 miles south and 11 miles above the epicenter! Don't EVER want to go through anything bigger than a 6 now!Ray Matteis

A place known worldwide for it's frequent often violent seismic activity, and the fact that you've chosen to call your XS " Megathrust " would seem to suggest that subconciously you WANT to be there when this phenomenon occures.
Either that or your bragging about you performance in bed.
