  • okay a couple of dumb questions...

okay, taking the bike out (hopefully) for the last time this year, this weekend. here is are my dumb questions.
when i am done riding, I am going to start painting....

is it best, if i am going to store the bike to...

run the tank (and reserve) dry?

or take the tank off and empty it?

and, do i need to do anything special to the fuel lines if i am going to store the bike without the tank for awhile?

don't worry, for those that have asked, i'll get some pictures with the lights on, and i pm'd someone my email and he said if i sent him pictures of the bike he would post them for me. now that i typed that, it sounds kinda suspicious, being a pink bike and all....anyway, there it is.

    Thanks!!

Personally, I'd fill the tank to the tippy top with good gas, along with some Sta-bil or Sea Foam to stabalize the fuel. A full tank draws no condensation. No condensation= no rust. Also.. you can fire it up every week or two to keep everything in order.

Plus.. you may get some freak warm day, and it'll be ready for a quick ride... though with a pink bike, you'll wonder why all the cars that wave at you have the little rainbow bumper sticker..

so...run it dry (don't let anyone see me, and i already said i don't need any "new friends" in a different post!!!!) paint the tank, fill it back up with sea foam (seems to be everyone's favorite over sta-bil) and let it sit?

do i run it dry before painting or just pop the tank off and empty it myself? does it matter?

If your painting the tank, obviously you would want it empty. I would recommend riding it almost dry cause that is the most fun way to get it that way! Either way you go about it works the same.

I would also drain the carb float bowls, nothing to special to do with the fuel lines other than empty them also.

After you paint the tank and have it ready for service, either store it inside in a warm dry place, or fill it wiht fuel and add the Seafoam to the fuel.
Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

When your work speaks for itself, don't interrupt.

that's the big problem. most people would just laugh and go on with their day, but i don't need the static from the few that would take it as an invite to start something. and i don't need the black eye and cut knuckles (i'd rather get those wrenching on the bike than hitting some a$$hole cause he thinks he is funny!!!
