Have any of you heard of anyone using these?

    Snow Claw

I wonder if they would clear the shaft housing?

I don't think I'd try them as a daily rider thing, but it may help people who go cross country during this time. I'm headed out Friday, and although the weather looks decent for the trip, you never know. If this is something that could make the difference between either backtracking possibly hundreds of miles or being stranded... to being able to continue on... they may be worth it to carry a set?

Maybe an added insurance policy for idiots like me that ride year round.

They would help you go, but turning and stopping might be a challenge.

So.. rent 4 wheels instead of an option to ride on two wheels? Silly man.. What were you thinkin'?

          Seriously?......
Do they come with the front ski and outriggers?

I used to put a tire chain on the back of my dirt bike and go snow riding.
You could go like a summbitch, but stopping and steering were questionable, at best.

                    Seems to me

That there are too many bare tire places that the
Claw doesn't cover. You might get going if you get the back wheel spinning fast enough but what about the slick as snoot on a door knob front wheel?? Turning will be an adventure, and you know what a adventure is? Lack Of Planning. We who are not as um brave as you will be praying for you to stop at the end of your driveway, fall over, curse, and put the bike away!

Ya know, I've heard this term before.. but who first found out about it and WHY? I guess when I was riding in the wet with my boots on the ground, I was practicing for riding in the snow??

Yeah, but you know you'll love the pics I'll be posting in the ride reports section... IF I can make it out of the driveway!

I've never tried a winter cross country trip but I typically take a few ~100 mile rides on my sidecar rig through winter. There have been a couple times when I've been on snowpack and had a hard time with traction, especially starting out or going over passes.

I picked up a bag of large zip ties that work well for temporary traction. They usually only last a few miles but that's been enough to get me through the worst parts. I'd love to find an aggressive 16 inch car tire that would fit - I'd definitely invest in a set of Aerostich do-it-yourself tire studs.

The zip ties is a good tip. I never leave home without 'em anyway.

I don't plan on riding in snow anyway... but there's always the possibilty when riding any distance this time of year. Thanks Rob.

One year I bought new grasshopper knobbies for my TM250 and used ΒΌ"Hex heads to stud them. Ran it all winter to and from work with the occasional weekend Ice racing.

Studded tires front and rear work better.

Back in the early 60's, Used to love watching the sidecars race on ice.
