I spent a week in college station Texas, fire training at Texas A&M training facility. I have to say that as a Canadian it is amazing to me the hospitality and kindness that the people of Texas offered to our group. I wanted to say this so that anyone who hasn't been to Texas and wants to please go it was an amazing experience.

Fire training ehhh, we used to have some Canadians come down every summer doing fire protection work with us. It was accredited to their college degree in fire protection.http://www.myspace.com/i_give_you_power

Well I can say is that I had the best time ever at an industrial fire training course shutting in flange and valve fires. And I went to the Aggies game on Saturday night and I think they said there were 70,000 in attendance. Theres no stadium in Canada that holds that many poeple. And to my standards you could ride all year round in the Houston areaEven a blind monkey gets the odd banana.

year round riding
I'm in San Antonio not too far away and can attest - went riding today with SWMBO - it was about 59F and partly sunny - wearing an UnderArmor tee and long sleeve shirt, leather jacket and jeans/gloves full face helmet I was fairly comfortable most of the day - wifey complained a little of the chill above 70mph but she too had jeans and leather jacket, but only a short sleeve shirt underneath.
With a neck gaiter and lined jeans I could have ridden down to about 40F and thats about as cold as I want to ever ride
If I lived in Canada I would only be riding a few months a year I guess...
I am glad you enjoyed your time in Texas - we do try to be friendly to everyone, but most especially to visitors. I am not an Aggie (I went to The University) but did attend a home game at Kyle Field once with a friend who went there and really enjoyed the display of pride and school spirit there. My daughter considered going there and visited campus 3 times - my wife was hoping for a house divided, but luckily she chose UT instead

Having gone to school in the UT system... a few years ago I would have made an Aggie joke here... but I now have a niece and nephew who have graduated from A&M and two daughters with hearts set on being Aggies themselves...

No... but at least they're polite after they run you over...
It's the transplants you have to watch out for...
Texans will run over you... stop... get out of the car and make certain you're okay...
Transplants will run over you... then back up in case they didn't do it right the first time...

Hope I can come down again soon, and drivers around here are pretty sketchy as well. Don't have a problem with red necks plenty of them in Alberta as this is a oil and agricultural province. It was a pretty intense experience cause the school is next to the airport and between F-18's, Blackhawks, transport planes, and even coast guard planes I really enjoyed the armed forces presence. I also hate to say it but I think I may be an aggies fan already thinking how I could make another game.Even a blind monkey gets the odd banana.

A few years ago (well quite a few), I was driving on the loop in Dallas with a pallet of 5gal cans of brake fluid in the back of my pickup I needed to deliver to some of our shops in the area.
One of those TRANSPLANTS cut me off and I had to take evasive action. The load shifted and all nearly tumbled out on the highway.
In the process of trying to get over to take care of the problem, severeal of those TRANSPLANTS honked their horns angily, some of them seemed to want to run me COMPLETELY off the road, and I was repetedly told that I was #1 in sign language. Even after I was well off the highway working on getting things straightend out there was a lot of horn blowing and dirty looks.
I was kinda hoping at least one of them would stop and see how I was and maybe even help.
I guess they were all foreigners.
