I have one of those Mexi-Telecasters, an '03 I think, and I like it. They're about 300. Play mostly acoustic now tho. There's tons of lessons on YouTube.2H7 (79) owned since '89

Yep, I've played for 36 years.
Tele's are great guitars...
Strat's & dbl. fat Strats are great...
Paul Reed Smiths are phenomenal guitars. But pricey....
I'm a Gibson Les Paul fan myself. Les Paul Studios are sweet!
I have both the Strat, & the Les Paul. Prefer the Les because of the sweeter tone. Strat's kinda twangy. BUT... it all depends on the type of music your playing. Strat was made for Nashville sound country.
PRS, or Les Pauls for rock leads and ballads....
I also prefer the way the Les frets better than the Strat, makes it easier to play.
I also play acoustic & Bass.
I have 2 Ac. guitars... a Taylor Big Baby, and an Alverez. Used to own an Ovation 12 string. If you like 12 strings, some of the sweetest were from the late 70's, early 80's that Ovation made... back when they were real wood, and not composite modulars... nowadays, even w/ pickups & graphic EQ's, they sound too tinny for me. I got rid of mine.
One last thing to consider that I think is even more important than which guitar... WHICH AMP TO USE! I love the old 60's Fender's... tube type of course.
I do own a new Behringer modeling amp 120 w, dual 12's... and for the money, I like it. Would I play a live gig professionally with it? Probably not. Marshall stacks then! LOL
But a properly selected and timed effect, coupled with the appropriate foot switch board, is the key to it all. Then learning the chops.
Just getting started, just learning... both Fender and Gibson make a cheaper series of guitars... and the quality's not bad at all! For $200, you can get a great starter guitar kit... a starter practice amp and a few accessories...
Check out either Guitar Center, or online shop @ Musician's Friend.com...
you can even get great financing deals... 1 year, no interest, no payments... not a bad deal at all.
IMHO... if you're just starting to learn how to play... taking lessons... start w/ an acoustic. You'll be glad you did. Then advance to an electric later on.
I've given guitar lessons for over 30 years now... and I've taken lessons from one of the best around... Jim Bates. He's the guru of strings. Strings dean @ Tulsa University, member of the Tulsa Philharmonic, and 1 of the Grady Nichols Trio. When the big boys roll through Tulsa, he's the guy they ask for advice.
Wish I was that good...
Funny thing is... when you meet him, he looks just like Frank Oz! If you make the mistake of judging that book by the cover, he'll line you out real quick. Amazingly talented man.
Hope this helps ya somehow...'82 XJ1100J Maxim (has been sold.)

I have an American Deluxe Tele that I bought about seven
years ago. Very nice guitar. Also own a Guild Starfire IV
and a Taylor 810 acoustic. You should try and test play
as many as you can before buying.1979 XS1100SF

Im not a big tele fan myself. I have a Paul Reed Smith Singlecut Tremonti edition and absolutely LOVE it! I have yet to hold another guitar that was so comfortable in my hands. Ive always preferred the sound of good humbuckers. Ive also got a les paul, 2 acoustics, and a bass.1981 XS11SH Custom Project - Juggernaut

I have the Baja Telecaster...it was made in mexico but has the s-1 pickup system with custom shop pickups in it. It's really nice but the neck is like a baseball bat. The Fender guitars use a 25.5 scale and the string tension is a little tighter that of the Gibson scale 24.75. As a beginer I've found that the gibson scale was easier to chord and fret but that's just my opinion.1980 XS1100G

Tele
I have a 1963 Tele that was given to me in 1963. I still have this guitar and still love it. It has been used on many recording sessions throughout the years. Before the 63, I had a 52 that was stolen, so last year I decided to buy the Fender 52 reissue and was amazed at how close it is the the original. You won't regret buying a Tele!78 XS1100E Standard
