      They really do exist for sure. They talk about them on yamahaclub.com all the time.

        I wouldn't buy it for even 100. they were problematic until 1977 - 79 which was the last 2 years for them. Before that they had know issues with the valve seats in the head. I saw one go for just over 500 on ebay a few weeks ago and it was a 77 complete and original.

            In pieces...no title.....and not looking well cared for to begin with...they may exist, but only if you give it me, no way I would pay to get that project. JMHO

              Yes the 77 through 79 XS500 was in deed a fun ride. I owned a 78 just before getting my XS11. It was light, nimble and easy to ride. I don't know why they dropped it after the 79 model year. A fun bike if you can find one that is 77 to 79. It actually shares several parts with the XS11 and if you look at the bike closely you will see the same style as the 78 -79 11. Tank shape, side covers and tail cowl are very similar to that of the 11 in over all appearance.
