    Looking for a rare version of a song?

    Hey folks,

    Many of you know that my bike is named Godzilla. It's theme song is BOC's song of the same name. I've got a CD with their standard Studio version that's about 3:41 long. I've heard an LIVE extended version, but it's not what I'm looking for.

    I remember hearing an extended STUDIO version of this song a few decades ago. The extended portion was in the instrumental after the first minute or so of lyrics and chorus', where they are singing "Godzilla" and having it echo/reverb back and forth across the left and right channels, and then do the same with sort of a dueling guitar type set of rifts, for several sets before it the climaxes into the last chorus session for the song.

    SO....does anybody have a copy of a STUDIO....not live version that is at least 30 seconds or more longer than the 3:41 version from the original album? I don't know if this is one of those situations where the original ALBUM version might have been longer, but they editted it for RADIO and the later CD version??? However, the ALBUM versions that I've seen have listed the song as only 3:40 or so long??

    My brother that I got to reunite with last year after some 10 + years of no contact also remembers a longer version as well, so I'm sure it's not just all in my head!

      I don't know if that YouTube version was supposed to be the version you informed me about, but even though it's longer, it's just because they are playing it at a bit slower pace. If you'll listen to it at the 2:55 point, they only play one little 5 second rift and then jump right into the chorus...it's right there that the version I heard had like 30 or more seconds of dueling guitar type action there building to a nice musical climax before it finally went into the CHORUS.

          No TC, it's not your imagination; I remember that longer version too. And I've been disappointed many times by the 'CD' editing/mixing done on some albums, to the point that I'll transcibe the vinyl to CD rather than buy the ready-made product.

          I don't have that version, but I'd suggest watching Ebay for it. You'll see 'promos' show up there, and look at 'import' versions of the album also, as they can be much different than the American releases. Also look at movie soundtrack albums, as different song versions show up on these. You may also have to watch the Australian and British Ebay to turn this up, but most of these guys will ship.

          Probably won't be cheap though....

              Confirmation!

              Hey Steve,

              Thanks for that confirmation, I knew I wasn't going crazy even though you ARE!

              Yeah, I've got a bit over 1000 albums that I've been collecting since I was 15, and have also learned how to "RIP" my vinyl to CD and now MP3. A few other songs that I've heard butchered were the Guess Who's "No Time" as well as an obscure 1st hit by the Little River Band, called It's a Long Way There, originally 8+ minutes long, cut down to 5 or so for radio play. Surprisingly I found the original full length version recently released in a colleciton on iTunes, before that it was unobtainium...my LP version was damaged in the first few grooves of the song!

              The problem I have is that I don't know exactly what version the extended STUDIO version is, what or how it's described, etc.! I listened to a version from Some Enchanted Evening, a surprisingly good quality LIVE version, but it was essentially the same as the short version!

              I did a search, and found as few references for the above mentioned PROMO version or such, but like you said, they were very expensive!

              I found a 3 song PROMO CD on Ebay, Godzilla, Don't Fear the Reaper, etc., but it didn't have any time listings for the songs. I didn't bid and it ended without any buyer. I wrote the seller asking if they were going to RElist it, and if they could tell me how long the Godzilla song was, but haven't heard back over a week ago?

              Richard/Rpgoerlich....I've heard that version, but it's not what I remember hearing many years/decades ago. I don't like LIVE versions much especially from that era due to the poor sound quality and such!

              I'll keep looking, but hopefully someone else will read this thread, and have that copy that could send it to me in an MP3?

                I know exactly the version you are talking about and I am pretty sure I had a cassette with it on it, but its been so long, I dont know what happened to it.
