  • Electrolysis for rust only??

Ok, it has been a long time since my chemistry classes. The tank on the project bike has quite abit of the old gas that has carmelized in the bottom. the rest of the tank looks pretty shiny and nice really.

I like the electrolysis method of cleaning the tank and do not really like the liner products. But I wonder if the electrolysis will pull the varnished gas out as well??

The electrolosis is going to work on ferrous metals only.. so I'd say no to attracting carbon based gook.

    Just a theory though..

Do like I did on an old tank. Pour in a few gallons of diesel for a few days and keep shaking it around. Them, poor in a few cups of carb dip cleaner and shake around. Then rinse and go for the electrolysis.

Could simplify all that and pull the float and petcocks after what 81xs said. Dump it out, spray inside heavily with WD40(as it is NOt a lube), take to car wash and with all the openings stick that wand in there on soap. It will actually do a pretty good job, may surprise you.back home, stand on end against something, work or heat lamp with a fan added to quickly dry it out. Simple and works.
