  • Yea, another computer question!

When I ck on Favorites, and after each entry is list of sites. I add and delete some of the sites over time. After a while the sites get out of alphabetical order. The question then is how do you get them back in order without going thru endless "Drag and Drop" functions???
I told you guys I was a Ludite! Jack.

Just right click on the favorites and select "sort by name" if you have sub-folders open them and right-click inside the folder and do the same.

To clarify, right click on ONE of your favorites in the list and select "sort by name", not the folder. You dont get the option when clicking on the folder or name at the top of explorer.

No, it only works on folders, not individual links.
If you want to sort the whole folder AND sub-folders it kind of works.
Takes a while to get used to though.

I am using Windows XP MCE

It works just as Brian stated for me. If I right click on the word Favorites it is not an option, if I open the list and right click on one fo the listed site names, it is an option to sort the list by name.

                Follow the pointer....

I decided my favorites needed to be more organized also. Here's a vid of how I did it:

Just occured to me that I was at work when I stated that it only works on links, not folders. I use Explorer at work and Firefox at home on the laptop. I'm now happy to confirm that it works both ways, browser specific.

                      Hey Jack,

No problem, no LUDITE problems here, this is the Member's Lounge, Ludites welcome!

However, it's rare that my favorite sites would line up in alphabetical order and also match the order of their favoritism status, so I was just wondering why put them in Alpha order. Like XS11 would be LAST or very close to last on an alpha list, but it's on the very TOP of my list of sites to visit, so putting a group that included it in alpha order would be counterproductive! JAT!?

If you just rename it and put a put a 1 in front of it ( 1 XS11.com ) it will be first if that is how you want it. It will organize numbers before the letters.

After all it is a computer. 010001111101010111

Very interesting you mention the alpha order and XS11. My computer must have known my predisposition to come here as it actually put all of my favorites in alpha order save one...XS11 is at the top of the list!! And I did nothing I can think of to make it happen.

                            Put in your tool bar..

Here's where I keep it, no need to pull down bookmarks or favorites to go to the most important site.

Easy to do on Firefox, just click and drag out of your bookmark list and drop it in your toolbar. Dont know if it's that easy on IE yet, I havent tried.
