Hey, Jack... how's it goin'?
I personally haven't bought one yet... but may by next spring... along w/ a GPS.
But a buddy of mine has one... and it's got bluetooth, so he can hear it in his helmet when it goes off. He has a Garmin 550, which is like the hub, and then it goes to his headset on his helmet, (Scala Rider.) He can listen to his tunes while riding, his cell will interrupt the music, he can talk while riding, and the radar detector will alert him... all at the same time... hands free.
If one has the big bucks, it's the only way to fly.
I'm still working on that one... haven't saved enough coin for those purchases yet... Garmin - $700, Scala Rider (dual) $499, detector - $499 etc....
But, I will say... if you happen upon a trooper... at least in the panhandle of OKLA, and your speed is , let's say, somewhat 'spirited'... not even a detector will save you a huge ticket sometimes. We proved that last summer...
The best investment he's recently made on both of his bikes was to install active cruise control systems. I helped him on his last one. Very labor intensive, but if you do it yourself, it works great for around $200!'82 XJ1100J Maxim (has been sold.)

radar is great
HOwdy Jack, I have used a radar detector for years in my cars. I have the cheap ones from the local Walmart. Today they run about 40.00 and give about a 400 yard heads up before the radar from the cops. It gives me enough time to slow down, especially at night when the sneaky bastxxxds hide. I havent used them on my bikes yet but for cars they are great. I wired them into the 12 volt supply, velcro them to the dash and it elimanates sliding around and the painin the axx cig lighter power cord all over the place. Anyway,,,,,,highly recommended for those inclined to drive in the fast lane. Just be aware of those cops that sneak up behind. Regards, Mike in SUn Diegomike

Wife and I had two mounted in the car when we took off on a cross country vacation some years back. Two different models that didn't sound the same. One mounted up behind the rear view mirror and one on top the the rear window brake light. Hard wired both. Didn't get 20 miles from home before they kept us from getting nipped. Wheren't going overly fast, just anxious to get going and wasn't paying close attention.
We didn't use them so we could go fast. Just so we weren't hammered for some of those 1 mph over jurisdictions.
Very handy around Pella, Iowa.RIP Whiskers (Shop Boss) 25+yrs

I use the big white radar detectors with the black numbers, if the number on the one coming up on the side of the raod is smaller than the last one you past it means there's a cop up ahead. Great thing is the government provides them free of charge.Casey

Hi Jack,
I don't have a radar detector on my bike but like you I'm going to add one.I do how ever use a high end Bell in my car as some have accused me at times of spirited driving. However a good radar detector DOES NOT replace a good pair of eyes or situation awareness.I always assume police officers are as smart as I am and probably better at catching me than I am at tricking them.So if you enjoy spirited riding I recommended doing it where it won't endanger others and never out ride your line of sight.
