  • Anyone near Minden NV?

Hey all, I've been out of work for nearly a year, I'm finally searching out of state and I'm kinda expecting an offer from GE in Minden NV. Its near Lake Tahoe in case anyone doesn't know. I'd be moving all the way across the country from Michigan. I'm just wondering if there are any members in the area and if they would comment on their feelings about the area and anything I should know.

Minden is a high desert, but it DOES get cold. It will put you about five hours from the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco, 1/2 hour from some GREAT riding in the summer, and just a few hours from some of the owners in the California Central Valley. You also have an owner in South Lake Tahoe, and one just north of Reno. They are not that active here, but they ride.

        Hi psyco,
you gotta go where the work is, right?
Mind you, I had to do that and ended up in Saskatoon.

I have friends in Minden and they love it there. They made to move there to escape Kalifornia.

My budy runs a gold panning supply business and was in Carson city getting his small business permit at the same time another gentleman was getting set up to run a home computer repair business. The clerk told them both " Since I have both of you here together I will give you the speach about running your home based business........Don't piss your neighbors off. Give them a plate of cookies once in a while. That's it".

It is cooler than Kalifornia valley or coast but I don't know if compares to some of the weather where you are from. They do get some snow where they are located but usually no more than 4-5 inches at a time and it usually dosen't stick around too long. Most of the snow stops at the Tahoe basin just to the west of the valley.

You will definately have more riding days. Lots of BLM land close by as well so a dirt bike or a quad would be cool.

          Good luck.

Thanks, guys. It's nice to know that the people who live out there like the area. I noticed that there is lots of park land around there too, we both enjoy hiking, off roading, etc so thats a bonus. As for weather, here I'm comfortable riding in temps below freezing as long as the roads are dry, so out there were average lows are 20's and highs in the 40's even in the coldest part of the year I think I'd be riding about 95% of the time. I'm still waiting for work on how my interview went.

As for going where the work is, yeah I guess I do....

If you like to fish you are very close to the East and West Carson river (trout). You are just over the hill from Lake Tahoe And all of the mountain lakes on Hy 88. A few miles south and you are fishing Bridgeport Res., the East Walker river (big trout), June Lakes loop and so on.

              Bring your fly rod.
