Granted, that's still more than a stock HD.
Went to a dyno session for a road king- made like 53rwhp. My V65 Sabre made 107rwhp on the same day. I get a bit over 40, average on the honda. Road king made a bit over 50 mpg, but closer to 55mpg.

for double the HP I will take a 5% MPG loss LOL

I'm sorry, Ivan. Unappreciative snobs ride just about every kind of bike. I've only met one, but alas, he was riding Milwaukee iron. Everyone else has either been nice or ignored me, both of which are fine with me. If I wanted to socialize I'd drive a bus, not a bike.
This thread was about fuel economy and the numbers are hard to argue. When I drive Kong "safely" (i.e.) behind a line of cages creeping over the Coast Range, he gets 49 mpg. I can live with that. When I can stretch him out a little he will probably get 38 or 40. I'm OK with that too.
I like the smooth, even power, the handling is tolerable. In the parking lot he draws a crowd. On the bang-for-buck scale I'm off the chart. What's not to like?

        Chill Ivan

They can't help themselves. Wannabees that for the most part do not have the cahones to ride your bike. WE have a bike bar (not BIKER) in Dallas that I get a bang out of. Like to stop by and lay a little rubber just to see their gal friends drool. Most of them never rode a bike until they got enough money later in life to get a Hardly and handkerchief to hold their brains in. Sure like to park my MNS next to them and ask why their speedo only goes to 120.

Yeah, there is a stupid bar over on Beltline and I don't remember.

I am usually dead-set against watching South Park, but SWMBO insisted that I watch the Hardley episode on TV last night. I actually had to stand up and laugh out loud about what they called a "Straight man, who has never owned a Harley, but is interested, and might buy one someday." "Bike-Curious!" LOL!

Don't know where to post this!

Do you know why Harley riders wear the gloves with half fingers?? They like to see their girlfriends in miniskirts!!!

I thought it was to allow them to count while they still had gloves on. If they can't see their fingers, how can they count how many cylinders are still firing?

I know... that power thing: bad news for Harley.

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"

well is has degraded a bit...

but if anyone is still interested in mpg I rented a 2009 Harley Ultra Classic Electraglide 16000 miles on the clock, and rode it across Florida to key west a few weeks ago.
                              avg 34mpg
best was 42.5 mpg and 41.8 mpg on the strip from Homestead to Key West which is a slooooowwww road, 3 speed limits, 35mph, 45 mph and 55 mph, and plenty of speed traps to keep everyone at those speeds.
Lowest was 27.7 mpg, Sunday morning between Gainesville and Tallahassee, I75 and I10 at posted plus 5, on cruise riding pretty flat roads.

So I think the 50 is rounded up

My 04 Roadking can maybe get 50 at 55 mph, downhill and tailwind, but no way will it average that.

                              Scott
I have a bike and I am not afraid to use it

I agree. We're all riding. I've yet to have a problem with the Harley folks, (doesn't mean I want one). I just think, "at least they're on two wheels" and that's part of the family. I even went to a rally "the run to the sun" from a small town in Georgia to Daytona..on my Kawasaki Concours, back in the early '90's. I enjoyed the party and parked in the barn with all the Harleys. Never had a problem (and it was sponsored by Easyrider).

I'm against a**holes, not fellow bikers.
