I just replaced my handlebars with black painted ones. This, after just re-doing my bike. So, after I re-assembled my controls I went to fire up the bike... and when I pressed the start button.... NADA - NOTHING !!!!
Looked at the electric diagram for the G in the Clymer's and it shows a black ground wire coming from the right side controls... along with the double red and white and the blue and white wires. The black one was nowhere to be found. Eventually BikerPhil and I surmised that the ground was probably shared with the left side controls via the handlebars... Bottom line, I had to create a new ground for the right side contrrol unit for my start button to work. This took a lot of testing as you can imagine. It eventually worked.
So...... beware don't take what you see from these manuals at face value, check for youself what is really needed to make things work.
