  • Clymer Error Alert!!

I just replaced my handlebars with black painted ones. This, after just re-doing my bike. So, after I re-assembled my controls I went to fire up the bike... and when I pressed the start button.... NADA - NOTHING !!!!
Looked at the electric diagram for the G in the Clymer's and it shows a black ground wire coming from the right side controls... along with the double red and white and the blue and white wires. The black one was nowhere to be found. Eventually BikerPhil and I surmised that the ground was probably shared with the left side controls via the handlebars... Bottom line, I had to create a new ground for the right side contrrol unit for my start button to work. This took a lot of testing as you can imagine. It eventually worked.
So...... beware don't take what you see from these manuals at face value, check for youself what is really needed to make things work.

    Hi Cobia,
while Clymer's is by no means error-free, perhaps the authors did not expect that you would install bars that were insulated with black paint?

Fred, that's not really relevant because I'm talking about the electrical diagram showing a wire that's not there and never was there. Yet on the diagram it shows it going all the way to the connector and beyond.

        Thanks wa407mpp! We all have.

i put coated black ones on my special... it didn't work either. but there was no ground wire it actually grounded to the little plate that tightens onto the bar when you snug the switch dox down yous should be shiny on it. all i did was scrap the paint off the bar where the plate touched and it started just fine everytime!
