    Bought another one....

Woo Hoo! I bought another XS after watching CL for months, a '79F. Supposedly ran semi-recently but would die when warm, and probably all the usual problems, but as I got it for parts only, no worries. This will let me upgrade my '78 to tubeless tires, as well as giving me the extra parts I was after to do some 'appearence' upgrades as well (polishing aluminum can be fun!). Looks to be pretty much complete (only the lower half of the AC seems to be missing) and a full tour pack is included (fairing, bags, trunk) but I'm not sure if all the bits are there for that. I'll probably list that stuff for sale, as well as my trailer hitch, as my touring days are pretty much over.

That bring me up to 5 1/2 bikes.... two of which currently run.

Next decision; what color to paint the '78. I'm leaning towards an Emerald green (definitely not 'resale red'), but we'll see....

A bit of an update on my CL find. First, it turns out it's a '78, not a '79. A PO must have changed out all the bodywork when the Tour Pack was fitted. So bummer, no tubeless wheels for me. It also has a 'special' front master cylinder; anybody want to trade for a standard?

The rest of the bike isn't bad. I just finished tearing it down to it's component parts. Wiring is a bit butchered from the tour pack install. It appears I have all the 'stuff' for the tour pack except for the windshield and the backrest for the trunk; the paint is done for, but the rest looks fairly good. The seat pan is almost rusted beyond help, but I think I can save it. Carbs don't look bad except for a frozen choke.

I ran a compression test on the motor before I pulled it out of the frame and got mixed results; 210/120/190/180. Maybe a rusty valve seat on the low cylinder....

          Exhaust is a semi-rusty set of Jardine's.

Lots of spare parts, so I can keep mine on the road for years to come....
