Yeah Tod I agree..and this was my internal debate...comfort over aesthetics so if I ever get another more up to date Sport-Tourer then MadMax will revert back to his naked self...

No matter what I do to mine it too will never ever come close to the level that Cody attained with 'Zilla... I mean there are alot of excellent bikes here at CH11 but "Zilla is at the top of the heap..IMHO
Story I hear says that it all started as a dare w/ Bohn, anyway... over how much it would bring. So he put it on ebay, set the bottom line at what he thought was rediculously high, (even though it was far below what he actually had in it...) and then forgot about it for a while. Remembered about 30 minutes before close...checked, saw it was only up to around $3000.
He thought, "Yeah, that's about what I figured". Then, in the final minutes... 2 bidders got to goin' at it... when the dust settled, it sold for several hundred $$ over his limit... and it was gone! He couldn't believe it had sold for over $8000!
He told Denice, and she cried!
Then he thought... it won't go through... no way somebody will pay that...
Then the call came... the buyer was sending the check, to be followed by a big truck to pick it up a few days later.
He thought... "yeah, right." "The check won't clear"...
But then it did.
Then the truck arrived, and they told him it was going to be part of this rich guys' collection.
Later they told Cody that the man made one of his guys get on it and ride it up the street while he watched, to make sure it was ok... and then it went into his collection. And that was that.
None of us could believe it was really gone.'82 XJ1100J Maxim (has been sold.)

Here is my MNS with just a small shield, the MINIMUM I'll ride with...
Zilla was a VERY fast bike. I can STILL remember going through the tunnel on the North side of the Golden Gate Bridge with Cody whipping a "bad" HD...
My daily ride has the Yamaha version of a windjammer on it, but WILL be getting the Pacifico next spring, I hope. I like the Pacifico MUCH better than the windjammer. I have about 15 MPH more top end, and get better mileage with it!Ray Matteis

I'm with Ben! There's nothing like the comfort of a fairing.

I usually run mine nekkid during the summer, but spring and fall can be cold and wet up by here. In fact, I just put the fairing back on last week.
This is from last year at PDC.
I also have some soft bags I have been using lately. I want to build some new mounts for these hard bags. The PO fancied himself a fabricator/welder, but I think him more of the blacksmith type.
I like to mix and match. I get bored and take all the junk off of it, or put some of it on. Now, I have a std tank I can swap on.

I use my bags way too much to run without them. When I started riding, the bike was nekkid, and I had a hard time holding onto the grips at highway speeds because of the wind. I added a windshield, but that still meant I had to wear a backpack to carry anything. I like the history behind the Vetter organization, and now that I have pieced together a full touring package, I can't imagine not having it! The comfort and peace behind the fairing means I can actually relax and enjoy the ride. I actually like the look, as it's black with gold accents just like the MNS, so it looks like it was made that way! I had someone tell me the view from the rear made it look like a "Battlestar Galactica" space ship!
I even have a collapsible cardboard drink holder in one of the hard bags so I can make a run to the gas station for drinks (SWMBO has a thing for fountain sodas). I keep my rain suit, glucose tablets, and a can of plexus in the fairing, and I can easily carry 12-14 2-liter bottles (my weekly usage ) of diet coke in the trunk/bags.1980 XS850SG - Sold
