I find it contradictory that there are seat belt laws but no helmet laws in my state. Mind you, I don't believe in seat belt or helmet laws, but it is still contradictory all the same. With that said, I almost always wear a helmet, but I believe the driver should have a choice.
I am glad to hear that your friend seems to be doing well.
I have hit two deer... both with cages. Once with a 1974 Gran Torino going about 110mph down a country road. The deer jumped out of a low ditch and I just smoked him and ruined my car. The second time in a 1994 Ford Aspire when I was going 60mph and I had time to brake in a straight line (no cars behind me) and it was enough to slow down to about 45mph and just nick the right corner of my car where it didn't cause much damage.
Deer in Wisconsin are a hazard during certain times of the day. Be careful, because it doesn't matter how good of a driver/rider that you are, those ****ers can jump out of nowhere.

There’s allot more to ABATE then the helmet law issues. Many people that ride don't realize that funds this small group (relative to the amount of motorcycles on the road) collect go to pay to keep a lobbyist in state capitals to try to filter out junk motorcycle related law’s that may otherwise slip thru. You would be surprised the amount of crap that is slipped into bill’s here in California that never see the light of day because of this group’s lobbyist afforts. This (PAC) group deserves allot more support then they get.

Watch out for deer!!
Yesterday while riding near Fossil OR.One of my riding friends struck a deer at about 55 mph.The deer hit the bike on the left hand side and got him in the ribs ans lower left abdomen.After trying to recover for about 20 he road another 10-12 miles and got dizzy and pulled over.I road into Fossil and called 911.The local emt's transported him to local small clinic and then decided to call the doctor.120 miles from the nearest hospital they called Airlink,our local air ambulance based in Bend OR.They were worried he had internal injuries besides the three broken ribs.They released him last night and he is doing well today.One of the local A.B.A.T.E. guys was on the scene right away and hauled his bike into town and stored it for him until he can pick it uphttp://www.abateoforegon.net
I thought this was worth sharing.When they were talking about internal injuries I couldn't help but keep thinking about Lee.Maybe we need to start wearing flack jackets.
