  • Not for the faint-hearted.

So my sister sent me these pics, and I thought it was worth passing along.

Do you see the motorcycle in this picture?

    How about now?

The Honda crotch rocket rider was traveling at approximately 85 mph. The VW driver was talking on a cell phone when she pulled out from a side street, apparently not seeing the motorcycle. The rider's reaction time was not sufficient enough to avoid this accident. The car had two occupants and the bike rider was found INSIDE the car with them. The Volkswagen actually flipped over from the force of impact and landed 20 feet from where the collision took place.

All three involved (two in the car and the bike rider) were killed instantly. This graphic demonstration was placed at the Motorcycle Fair by the Police and Road Safety Department.
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

Something similar happened to a friend of mine about 30 years ago. He was driving is old beater cage home from his night job and a guy on a bike blew through a red light nailing his passenger door at about 75~85
    MPH (as the police estimated.)

Chuck lived to tell about it because early 1970's Oldsmobile station wagons are built like a tank but he never got over a fellow biker biting it on a bike not much different than the one parked at home in his driveway.

The old gray biker ain't what he used to be.

I wonder how, on Gods green earth, did they get everyone out of that mess, with that bike still in there? A spoon? Doesn't look possible.

Most of the time, the tisue/ligaments hold everything together even though the bones are all gone and they feel like a ragdoll. You can slide them out if they aren't too entrapped. If they are entrapped, you use the Jaws of Life to cut/spread stuff from around them, which in this case it doesn't look like they had to.

          Other times.... Piece by piece.

Montreaux - that looks like the same accident in the upper left hand corner. I don't like to get fixated on this kind of stuff, but I think it's a good idea to be aware of what's going on, and adjust your behavior appropriately. The only problem I ever had that went away by ignoring it was my ex-wife, but somehow I don't think that will work for this kind of stuff .

Is it just me? I think I see a common thread in the bikes in these photos?

They all still have plenty of tread left on the rear tire.

                        Bug.

Your second question lead to answering the first question.

You don't see to many people on a cruiser laid over the tank, wide open throttle in 3rd gear. I'm sure there are plenty here that do/have but I doubt they are doing so in town or at least where there are crossroads.

I call most of the guys on sport bikes "over-ripe skate boarders". They think they can't get hurt.

About 3 weeks ago there was a couple of guys on sport bikes showing off for a couple girls in a cage and one guy was sitting on the seat backwards with his feet over the back of the bike. Wasn't EVEN looking where he was going. 45mph. Helmet, short sleve shirt and tennis shoes. No gloves.

                        oseaghdha,
                        Zipsplat is an apt description.

I didn't want to show anyone because I might be judged as a ZipSplat.

Don't kid yourself, it doesn't matter what type of bike but I'm sure the odds are increased by the riding style, age group and inexperience of the average crotch rocket rider.

There are definately wrecks on all bikes but neither of these were going fast unough to cut the car in two.

I dig the new bike, Jeremy!

Same color as my Hurricane was. I miss that bike, sometimes.

                              Good color choice for visibility...
