  • Setteling into Ft Polk, La

It's been awhile since I've been on here, but I said I would update when I get a chance.
A quick recap. I took a 16 1/2 year break in service. Decided to re-up in the Army if they'ed take me. They said yes. I attended a 5 week Warrior Transition coarse at Ft. Sill, Ok. They wouldn't let me keep my previous MOS (job) so I retrained at FT. Jackson SC. I am now stationed at Ft Polk, La. Getting settled in with SWMBO. I got an apt about 20 miles south of post in a little town called DeRidder. So far the only regret that I have is getting rid of MIYAMI. I hope Paintman is treating her well.
I put my house in Madison, SD on the market but with the housing market were it is, I still own it. It is no longer on the market.
Before I can ride again, I have to attend the Army's motorcycle rider safety coarse. I am limited to only a 250 till I can take the advanced coarse. I have to take that within 6 months of attending the other. If I want a sport bike, then I have to attend a sport bike coarse. If I change bikes and there is a difference of 250cc's, then I have to attend another safety coarse. There is alot of hoopla I have to go through in order to ride again, but we do what we must do to do what we want to do.
I hope everyone in XS-Land has had a good summer and a good time.
I'll be back out there tearin up the highways again soon.

Ooooooweeee, good to hear from you, boy!

    Hey Czekus,

Glad to hear from you, and that you are thriving!

Yeah, military training for civilian activities actually goes back a long way!

I was in JAPAN in the '81, had brought my Yamaha TX500A with me to the "motherland". However, they drive on the "WRONG" side of the road in Japan...left side! SO....they required a cyclist to ride ON BASE for 250 miles first to get experience riding on the wrong side before they would let you go off base. The fun was that the base was only a few "Kliks" around via road, and the speedlimit was 25klicks/hour....~18mph!!! I got on it every day after my shift and got it done it about a week! I then got/found an XS750 Triple, got it licensed for Japan and rode it around the country for 1 1/2 years before returning to the US. I left my 500 there, brought my 750 and my newly acquired 1100 back with me in my household goods alotment!

        thank you for your service,again

So what mos did they give you the second time around ? I have been kicking the idea around myself, I got out in Dec. of 1994 after six years of service in the army. IIRC you had a state job as well before you reenlisted. Yeah I remember all the BS they required for driving the m/c on post. Godspeed and Godbless. Terry

Ft. Polk. I spent a years there one day

Welcome to Louisiana. You definately must get something to ride while here. There are miles and miles of beautiful roads on the Western side of the state and just across the Sabine River into Texas.

A couple of years ago I was dong work on the Alert Holding Building between North Fort and South Fort. I was there 8 weeks and loaded my 11 in back of my truck so I could take it with me. Alot of great riding in that area so take advantage if you can.

Once you un-can a can of worms, the only way to re-can them is with a bigger can.

Glad to know there are a few XSives here in Louisiana. I may pay Y'all a visit one of these weekends.
Thanks for the big hug there T.C.
Terry, I decided to stay in the motor pool where I might be able to get some rank back. 63B. Wheel vehicle Mechanic. Kinda what I did last time but no longer concentrating on Engr equipt. I still maintain my old MOS 62B as a secondary. If your thinking about re-up'in, do your homework and start PT now.
There was talk about dis banning WTC. If they do, It'll be Basic over again. If you decide to make a go of it, PM me. We'll get in touch and I can mabee let you know what your in for. from someone's who just got done doing it. Not the BS the recruiter will tell you. My requiter was straight with me but didn't know the whole deal. He does now, Kinda.
As we say in the Army, HOOAH !!!! Keep the dirty side down and I'll get back on here when I can. I'll be busy for a little while. I may be able to check messages but may not have time at that moment to answer.

Thats funny because that is what my mos was whenI was in. Basic and AIT at Ol' Lost In The Woods,Mo. then on to Ft. Hood,Tx. Did go to Saudi and Iraq the first time around while at Hood. Then I got sent to Korea for a year then right back to Hood. Met my wife and got out December 27,1994. The only thing I really miss about it was actually trusting the guys you worked with. ALthough I could be retiring by now if I had stayed in.
