    Musician

I grew up around music. My dad was a well know studio musician here in Louisiana and played on many songs that some of you older folks have probably heard. I started playing at age 9 and continue to play today. I have played in many bands both Rock and Country and have opened for some acts like Johnny and Edgar Winters, George Jones, Jerrry Jeff Walker. I pretty much retired from the traveling/touring scene 10 years ago but I continue to work on studio projects playing mostly pedal steel guitar. My first love of music is Classic Rock (xm 46 Classic Vinyl) but I also love country and blues. I detest rap simply because it is NOT music. Anyway, I started this thread to get to know you guy's and gal's better. Ya'll keep it going and have a good day!!

I love music. Listen to lots of stuff. I played Alto sax for quite a long time when I was younger. Still have it, just stopped playing. Now, I have an electric guitar that a friend of mine gave me. I am trying to teach myself to play. I like to get the tabs for black sabbath and Ozzy to play along. Occasionally I try a little Johny Cash. A lot of different things. I want to get to the point where I can say that I can actually play but Its hard finding the time here at school. Definitally bringing my Ax out to sea with me this time even if I don't have the amp. Any suggestions from you well established players?

If you are looking for a practice amp. I suggest the Roland Cube practice amp. You will love this amp as it is a modeling amp which means that they took sounds from other amps and modeled them electronically. This amp has some of the best effects you'll ever here on an amp this size. Check it out at www.musiciansfriend.com

I've been playing guitar for about 25 years, on and off. I've picked it up again as my son and his cousin are starting to play. It's funny to me that they pick the same songs I did 25 years ago. I guess it won't be long until the boy wants an xs. As far as music, I started with kiss, aerosmith, and ozzy, moved on to zepplin, old zztop, and hendrix, stopped at bob dylan, cat stevens, and james taylor, neil young for a little bit. I've even been known to blast some of that freak marlyn manson. Now I like it all as long as they put a little feeling into it. The foo fighters seem to get better with every album too. We went to see them last summer and they were really good.

The tele is the Baja Tele model. I bought it off my brother about a year ago to help him out of a tight spot, and he regrets it everyday. He dosen't come to the house to see the family anymore he comes over to see his Tele. I play through one of the new Vibro Champ amps and it sounds great!

The kids are listening to and playing the old stuff because in my opinion, 70's and 80's were the best years for music. The primary reason for their interest can probably be attributed to technology. Video games were created primarily by baby boomers and I would say the game "Guitar Hero" has done more for Classic Rock than anything. I have 2 of my grandchildren that are very good guitar players and drummers and they play mostly Classic Rock. When they got the Guitar Hero, it was like a light went on. Now, all they play is Classic Rock.

Picked up the Roland Cube 30x about a year ago so guitar players didn't have to haul their amps over to my house. (Excellent price since I don't play guitar). Never heard a complaint about it and, as we usually play with headphones on, the "recording" output works great for sending the modelled sounds straight into a live mix, recording or headphones.

The first 4 jams were recorded with the Roland Cube, no mike. www.reverbnation.com/cpwb

Trombone.. Reminds me of 2 of my favorite bands, Chicago and Blood Sweat & Tears. One of my first bands was an eight piece with horn section.

                      Some of my recordings

If you guys want to hear some of my studio stuff. Go the the following web site and click on the song "Say a Prayer". I am playing the pedal steel guitar on this track. I also played guitar on some of the other tracks and co-wrote many of the songs on Ferrals albums.

I'll have to agree with that statement! Guitar Hero has songs that even I haven't heard of on it. lol It's funny my wife is an elementry school principal and the kids will come in wearing a Green Day shirt and it blows their mind that she knows who they are.....they really don't know how old those guys are and that their dookie album came out in 1994 when we were 14.

My son is 11, and Green Day is one of his favorites too. I never liked them when they first came out, and I still don't but that's because I prefer the much older sound. SWMBO has quite a collection, and my son was rather impressed that she had Greeen Day albums from so long ago.

I remember, when one of my daughters was about 11 or 12, Waynes World came out and sort of reincarnated Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody. All the kids thought it was an unbelievably cool tune. My daughter was going through my albums and came across a double Live Queen album from 1979. She wanted it so badly because Bohemian Rhapsody was on it. I said, "If you can sit and listen to one entire side of this record, you can have it." I still have that album. Great that my kids listen to the same stuff I used to in the 70's and 80's. I'll listen to anything but Rap.
