    Just a thought...

You know a lot of paint stores that specialize in automative paints can put paint into aerosol cans these days. Pretty durable stuff too. They can also match paint just like Home Depot and Owes. Just my .02

      Ivan,
I have used both rattle cans and compressor systems. After trying rattle cans on my first daily ride, I went back to a compressor. The two part paint is the ONLY thing that will hold up to the crud they call gas out here. I was also able to get a NICE finish with the small spray gun, and it didn't take three refills to do the job!
I have a 110 volt "5HP" compressor with a 20 gallon tank. It will run all but the sand blaster and cut off wheel for as long as I want to keep working. You can find them around, or even new for just about $250 to $300. The nice part is I don't need to rewire for 220, although I CAN if I want, as the motor WILL run on 220. The 20 gallon tank is one of the big key items to look for. Once the tank is up, the compressor shouldn't have to work that hard keeping the pressure up. Using a LPHV paint gun, The compressor kicked in two times for the complete paint job! And no, I'm FAR from a "professional" painter. I'm just too cheap to pay the price they get around here for a REALLY nice job! ($2,000)

Most of us still think of the old fashioned paint guns that took a ton of air to paint.

The newer HVLP guns take WAY less air. They put more paint out with less air to minimize paint loss and to make painting easier.

We painted my '83 Monte Carlo with a 110v 5gal compressor. The only thing it had trouble with was the air sander.

I've seen HVLP guns for under $80 at Princess Auto, they are small for a car, but would be ideal for bikes.
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

If you REALLY want to lo-buck it, look at this

For even more info, use the '50 dollar paint' link to the Mopar forum and read the first 6-8 pages.

Yeah, I have seen that before, but the Venture doesn't have a flat place on it much bigger than 2-3". It would be a real pain with a roller.

              Hi Ivan,
here's a link to the Preval system:-
              http://www.prevalspraygun.com/
which allows the use of 2-part paints without using a compressor.
BTW, run 220 out to the garage via an extension cord plugged into your stove or dryer outlet.
Coil it up and stash it when it's not in use.

An automotive paint supply shop here gave me the spray can option. They will mix the automotive paint for me and put in a reusable aerosol spray can. The paint would be all pre mixed and ready to shoot- can pressurized as well. I would have to spray it soon as it is set up to cure. The can was around $20 and to do the rest was gonna be around $40. Traditional spray can paint is not durable at all and gets eaten by gas.

                  Hi Mike,
so for $60 you get a can of paint that has perhaps 8 hours between when the paint is mixed and when
any paint that you ain't sprayed yet turns into a metal-clad chunk of coloured plastic.
Not my concept of a bargain.

Do a good rattlecan job and you can get two part clear in a rattlecan type dispenser for about $20 that you push in a pin to activate and have like 12 hours to finish using it. It's supposed to go on over other paint types just fine and give a gas proof finish.

Itill have a bit in a can that was made up for my Venturer. Those will come with a nice fan pattern nozzle and the paint lays like glass. Could use on a tank, just don't spill gas as these are lacking a catylist. By the way, Indigo Blue as Yammy calls it is actually a Carbon Blue/Black, 2000 Toyota.
