Yamaha said yes
I called Yamaha the other day and left a message. She called me back today at 2:48-I explained what we wanted to do-gave her the web site and she said she would asked the powers to be and get back with me. At 3:07 she gave me a call back and said we could do what we wanted, just as the other rules apply. She will send me an email to have on file that it is okay. So MrOzz you are up next and make us something to be proud of. I will PM you with my email and when I get the info and restrictions I will let you know. There is a VERY fine line between "hobby" and "mental Illness"

Hey Ozz,
I didn't forget, I just got back a day ago, but have been busy with work and such. Looks like Rocknroll went ahead and contacted Yamaha, even though I have the contact info, and the information about what Yamaha requires when doing this sort of thing, etc. that I was going to send to you !
As for interest, there are many folks on here with SPECIALS, the last patch was for a Standard, and even though folks didn't have the 78E, they got the patch anyways, both for nostalgia, etc., so it's not hard to sell out of a 100 of them. Not sure how many Yamaha will permit being made???

the email is in my hand
Here is the whole email. I think there is one typo but we have it so I don't think we need to worry.
Brad,
Here is the email string giving the ok to design and make a 30 year club patch. Please only share this email with your club board members and not the general members.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

I agree with Jason's view on this that they should be ok....the XS11 is a model that is 25 years out of production

Belinda,
As long as they don't plan on selling them to members then it's okay for them to use the logo. If they were planning to make money off the sale of the patches with the Yamaha logo then it would be a licensing issue.
The fact that they are asking seems to say they are on the up and up. So please ask them what their plans are.
Bob ... please correct me if I am wrong.

Has a 30 year club anniversary coming up and they want permission to make patches commemorating this. Are you the one to handle this licensing or should I contact someone else?
He would like a call back so they can move forward with designing/ordering patches.
Thanks,

I figured you were busy so no worries. Thanks to RocknRoll for contacting Yamaha. Thats one step conquered. I cannot wait to see what Yahama has sent RocknRoll for requirements.
It would be great to know how much to order. Minimum is 100 patchs but the prices get better with the more you order. So if I can order a bigger lot the cost to all of us will be a lot better. Of course that depends on how much Yamaha will allow.

I have no idea how you managed to make that connection within your brain, but I applaud whatever cellular mutation just took place.

Do they have to differentiate between Special and Standard? It would be nice if they just said XS1100, and 30 years, and then it would apply to all the bikes - even my MNS in another 2 years.1980 XS850SG - Sold

RocknRoll,
Looks like they did not put any stipulations on how many or if they want to approve the design.
I will start coming up with some ideas and see what we all think.

The 1980 XS11's primary distinction from other XS11's was the introduction of the 'Midnight Special' class, the first of its kind among motorcycle manufacturers.
The 'Standard' was (is) the constant of the XS11, there from beginning to end and, memorialized on the 30th anniversary patch; the 'Special' was brought out in 1979 and stayed to the end and, therefore, has no (ahem) *special* significance in 1980.; the Midnight Special is, essentially, a 'Special' (for those 'Special' owners ) but, it was the 'Midnight Special' that changed the 'visuals' of the 'Eleven' (and other models) and remains today, as the only 'unique' colour scheme in existence (not including custom work).
Just my opinion but, to do the '80 XS11 Anniversary justice, it should be the 'Midnight Special' that graces the patch.1980 XS11 LG (Diablo)
