seems in order to get the bike to run???????? the PO of my dear sweet XJ took a screwdriver to the two outside carb butterflys in an attempt to do.......something???so now i am in need of at least two butterflys for an XJ.I tell ya some mothers children whew!!!! So i guess the bread tie method of sync will be fruitless...lol

I never get mad at PO shanagans because I'm a PO also. I sometimes run into things I've done to my cars or bikes in years past and say, what the hell was I thinking. Between the coat hangers, tin foil, parachute chord, all configurations of wire, resistors, swithes, dryer vent tubing, tin snips, and of course the main stays, JB weld and duct tape, I'm sure I've pissed off quite a few.

Close- just replace "Cannot be fixed" with "You have an electrical problem".
        Currently XS-less.

hehe, I think you could also add a "need new set of carbs" box if duct tape and wd-40 don't do it. Did I mention I have actually fixed two leaks on the XS by smooshing gasket maker into the crevases where oil was seeping out. Still holding over year later. That didn't work on my old Buell however. The yamaha design is obviously superior.

That is why I think about a potential future owner with EVERYTHING I do to my bike. I imagine myself on the receiving end of whatever mod or adjustment I make and if it doesn't look good, I don't do it.

That makes me feel better... I just discovered a crack in the top of my transmission case last weekend. It turns out that has been leaking oil for quite a long time, but I never noticed it there. I kept blaming the leak on the starter! Anyway, I cleaned it up really good and smeared a nice bead of RTV over the crack. So far, about 100 miles later, and no more leaking oil (from there, anyway)! Hopefully it holds until I am forced by some other event to take the engine out and split the cases, so I can TIG weld it or something.
