  • A Different Kinf of Armor

    Has anyone tried these?

They have a shirt also, it seems like the armor might stay in place better while sliding. And you could wear regular jeans over it.

    Stoplight Pants

Haven't tried/bought any yet. I do like to ride in Jeans and I prob'ly fit the profile of the guy who would likely add these to my "cart.

Deal breaker for me was when I googled these pants. Reviews say that they are not effective for when the rider is moving/sliding down the asphalt. The material just isn't up to that task: the pads or the longjohns which hold them in place.

They might be effective if I was standing still at a stoplight and someone hit me. But mathematically that moment where I am perfectly still is a very small fraction of the "riding time" at least for me. May be more likely that any injuries/accidents I have will be taking place at a roadspeed above 45 MPH.

I read alot of reviews....seem mixed. But I just read this one "cons: no fly opening for man bidness". That is kind of a deal killer.

Did ya see the review where the guy says that there's about $30 worth of fabric+materials in the thing? For the $160 price they could have a least built in a funnel, tubing, and an empty flask around your ankle.

I think they got the idea from the Batman Movies. If it came with a cape which would let me glide....

Yeah, I have seen CE rated replacement armor at some of the online discount shops for less than $50 a set. So why would that and some spandex be so pricey?

What would be a good thing to attach some of that armor to, so we could have a "Poorman's Batman suit"?
          Ich habe dich nicht gefragt.

I know a guy (through another forum) show wears these with draggin jeans, and swears by them as he had a getoff wearing them and walked away with hardly even a bruise. The draggin jeans handle the abrasion, and the armor handles the impact. That's the one issue I have with draggin jeans, no armor. I have also heard of guys wearing these under their riding pants and such for the extra protection. I'm not sure I would buy them myself though.

What about mesh armored pants? They're a little cheaper ($119 last I checked), and have the same kind of armor (though maybe not as securely fastened to the body) as these stretchy ones, along with the mesh to protect from abrasion. Made outta the same stuff as my riding jacket. The only down side I can see is you probably wouldn't want to get off the bike and wander around town with the mesh pants on over your jeans.
