    Neat Article!
Healthy is merely the slowest rate at which you can die

Some people will tell you that slow is good - and it may be, on some days - but I am here to tell you that fast is better. I’ve always believed this, in spite of the trouble it’s caused me. Being shot out of a cannon will always be better than being squeezed out of a tube. That is why God made fast motorcycles, Bubba….Hunter S. Thompson

As an owner of the original 78E (ser. # 000254), I can attest 52 MPG while touring with HD and GoldWing bikes. I can also attest to 125 MPH cruise for 1.5 or 2 hours at a time!
The article tells the tale, but all the owners here REALLY tell the tale!

52 MPG?? What was that; coming down off a mountain pass? The BEST I ever got with mine was 41, and I was usually mired in the mid-to-upper 30s. If I got 'enthusiastic', I could get it down into the very low 30s....

But who the hell ever bought one of these for their fuel economy??? LOL

            High speed crusing? Noooo problemo...

NO, as stated, I was "cruising" with the HD and Goldpig crowd. One Honda got 54, the next one was 52, and I got 53. The NEAT part was I kept it in 5th gear most of the way, and the other bikes needed to shift up and down the take the 25 MPG curves! My SHMBO at the time was almost 105, and I DID have our needs for the weekend with us!( Gilroy to Pismo Beach via Highway 25 in CA).

Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.

You can live to be 100, as long as you give up everything that would make you want to live to be 100!

                      Back up

I can back up the 50 + mpg claim! In 79' I bought a xs11 and in Dec. of that year my wife and I rode the bike with full fairing, trunk, and bags from LA to New Orleans, and back. At 70 mph, we consistently got 50 mpg. And that was with the bike loaded with clothes etc, for the trip.

That 50+ mpg figure was probably with no ethanol dilution and leaded gas as well?
