since Dec 2008 I've logged 164,224 miles. My goal is 100,000 miles a year. Might be a little short of the goal, but close.

      just rolling along

ay Pat--, there's only on way you'll stay a newbie as you call it is to climb out NOW.
You certainly have a romantic way of looking at the road, but your right, down here when I'm away from city lights, of a night the stars & the moon make a scenery very few people get to see.
At midnight when on a quiet road, headlights turned off it's amazing how much you can see & how clear things are.
This is my 18th year behind the wheel & I have no idea how far I've travelled in that time, one of the trucks I drove had 418,000 klm put on it in 18 months, I know that because I hopped in when it was brand new & they bloody hard miles, the one I'm in now has had 200,000 put on it in just over 18 months, a much easier guy to drive for .
The Freightliner in the video is 4 yr old, 575 hp tuned down to 535hp Detroit with manual 18 speed full crash box[no sincromesh], normally pulling a 45' curtainsider or a 45' extendable trailer that stretches to 74 feet.

As an "ex" driver, I STILL get a longing now and then! I drove for ten years, and almost 1,000,000 miles after I got out of the army. At 30 years old, they found out I was an insulin dependent diabetic and I lost the medical cert. needed for my class1. I drove for a company the last six years that used 27' vans, two behind a two axle tractor for L.A. turns, or one or two for LTL freight. I practiced for over a year and was able to back the rear trailer and put it against the fence, drop the con-gear, and then park the front trailer. Thats when I knew I was a driver, and not just someone who turned a wheel. I can still back a boat or utility trailer and put it where I want it!
