  • First Gear Problems

I have a 1982 XJ1100 Maxim - shifts smooth in all the gears - but has a problem in first. 1st seems to engage fine - but after slight acceleration - clashes and skips - though it seems to still be in first when stopped. I can start out in 2nd - accerate fine and all the rest of the gears are smooth and no skipage! I was wondering if this a a shaft drive problem (I dissassembled and the splines look fine), transmission problem - or final wormgear on the rear-end? Anyone had a similar situation? Lots of miles on the bike - always dependable - but missing 1st?

    Appreciate any suggestions!

    1st gear

GO to the search mode (top right on screen) type in 1st gear skipping or something similar and you will find lots of info . YOUR trouble is a fairly eazy fix but it is in the transmission regards Mitch
