Ever since I got my 80G, I always thought the throttle action was a bit heavy, but I always just attributed it to moving 4 butterflies vs the 2 that my 400 has. Finally this weekend I got around to doing cable maint, and put the lubing tool onto the clutch and throttle cables and pumped some cable lube into them (I always figured it was normal because the throttle always returned properly). Then after cleaning up the mess (these things don't really get all the lube into the cable like they claim, a significant amount goes all over, but it DOES get the lube all the way down the cable) I took it for a test ride. I had a really hard time at the start, the throttle was so easy to move and so responsive! The clutch was a little better, but the throttle is like a new bike. Never again assume that something a little stiff is normal, I'll make sure that the proper lube job is done and only then if it's still stiff will I consider that it might be normal.
I've been complaining about pain in my throttle hand from having to grip the grip so hard to twist it. I had thought it was in large part the grips (old foam grips that we falling apart) so a large part of the reason I did the cables was I got my new grips in (took 3 weeks for the dealer to get them, but the price was reasonable) and so I was changing them. Now I'm looking forward to getting out for a bit of a ride next weekend (too much other stuff to do this weekend). But so far I've ridden further pain free than I could before, so I guess lesson is keep up on those little maint chores that don't look as important, because they are!!!
