          Psychedelic!

You're welcome, Garth! The bike looks really good with the new handlebars and no sign of any (recent) fuel leaks!

Now that my computer is fixed and running again I dug up a thread with the headlight relay part numbers.

'78 and '79 have different part numbers but are probably the same type of relay.

          '80 and '81 share a common 3H5 number.

None of it means squat without the actual specs for the relays but there are different numbers for use with the old-style '78/'79 Yellow wire from the stator common wye-connection and the new-style '80/'81 White wire with a 12 volt diode.

          Regards,

          Scott

Whew! Okay, I'm stilll trying to figure out why the new-style 3H5 relays didn't work in your '79 and we had to hook up a jumper to get the headlight to work.
I was mostly referring to an earlier thread/post with the part numbers for the headlight relays and why you might not want to use a standard, unmodified, automotive relay instead of the Yamaha relay.

Off the top of my head it looks like the older numbers would be for 6 or 7 volt coils in the relays and the new one would use 12 volts but there are no actual specs published anywhere, just the different Yamaha part numbers.
