  • The original Pathfinder...

I just watched a PBS special about the National Park to Park Highway.. http://www.nationalparkstraveler.com/2009/06/national-park-park-highway
I found out that the original Pathfinder was Anton Westgard, founder of the AAA and the person responsible for mapping out most of the roads west of the Mississippi and led the first caravan of dignitaries and notables around the National Park to Park Highway I believe in 1920. A 4500 mile trip with no real roads, back when you couldn't tell a highway from a framers path to the back forty.

My bike is named "The Pathfinder" in honor of the man (David Delzell) who did the complete restoration. Now I know who the original Pathfinder was....

You can't stay young forever, but you can be immature for the rest of your life...

      Pathfinder saver

Hey Planedick,,,,,I was glad to see your dedication to keeping the XS1100 of Pathfinder alive and well. It is a rare person to ride across the country to get a bike that was restored with passion and keep that memory going. Most of us didnt know Dave aka Pathfinder, but reading his posts we could feel the joy he got out of working on his XS. With your extensive abilities the bike will enjoy a lot of riding.
We missed you at the latest rally, everyone was asking how your doing and hoping you can make the next one. It was great to see a lot of new members, and their excitement and passion around these great bikes. For me to see a young and old generation mix and enjoy the XS1100 was heartwarming. THere are lots of bikes, but these are special and will always be. My bro in law got his XS1100 running great with a lot of sweat the and the help of Scott, and the motor of the Wiz. You ever feel like a ride send Scott, or Garth or me a message, it would be good to see you again. Lunch is on me. Anyway, we all owe the AAA Pathfinder his due for starting the excitement of the roads less traveled. Hope the program is shown again,,,,,take care, Mike in S.D.
