  • Anyone filing for lost title in NY state?

Not sure the exact process for filing for lost titles in New York is but I know if you call a DMV the only information they give you is, "Dont buy it unless theres a title." That said, I found a nice '80 XS11 SF with no title... Was wondering if anyone could lend advice on process of buying a bike with no title and trying to obtain it legally. I heard of sites that can get you the title or something like that but never heard of anyone using it. Advice? Thanks.

They don't wail like a screeching ninja, the don't rumble like a harley. They just growl like a spactic, stressed out badger waiting to rip your face off and eat your soul." Trainzz~RIP~

It depends on the state. There are a few states where it's pretty easy, and some where it's almost impossible, and others that it's just a medium pain. California is actually not too hard, there are 2 or 3 processes you might have to go through depending on the value of the bike and it's age, and you might have to post a bond in some cases, but it can be done.

NY - I think the previous owner can apply for a LOST TITLE ($5-10?), not exactly sure of the process, but check the NYS DMV site.

        lost title

this is a company that i have heard about. the website states they will get you a title and plates for a year for 150 bucks, thinking about using them myself just can't come up with the extra money. i researched them online and have found a bunch of different groups that have used them with success.i once tried to get a title for a car here in CO,but ended up giving it away after wasting almost aweek funning around for paperwork and then getting turned down by the dmv. good luck.
