  • Begging of an era

Today I took one of my twin grandsons for his first ride on a motorcycle. His description of the ride was "that was totally awesome."

I hope my other grandson will join me on a ride soon. He's still a little apprehensive about getting on the bike...

LOL.. That's what I figured. I couldn't let that one get away Scott-free though! That is very cool though.. Hopefully the other one will like it also.

As an EMT years ago, I brought the ambulance home from time to time in the small town we lived in. My oldest son came out and was sitting in my lap. I let him play with the lights and sirens... eyes lighting up.. big Cheshire Cat grin on his face. He looks me dead in the eye and says, "Dad, I know what I want to be when I grow up!"

My chest puffs up with pride.... a small tear to my eye.. and I answer, "You do, huh? What is it?"

He excitedly fires back.... "A Fireman!"

So, dear Geezer, don't be surprised when the youths, after a spirited ride around town, gazing upon your trusty steed with that glimmer of the future in their eyes.... looking at the shiny bits... the beautiful lines... and proudly proclaim, "Grandpa, when I get old enough, I know what kind of motorcycle I want! A 'Busa!"

The XS isn't a bike for everyone... thank goodness.

Oh no not a Busa. It's like the XS11 isn't fast enough...

Both boys already want to work in my business and that's more than enough to make me proud but at 6, there's not much they can do yet. I've given them the job titles of co-VP's of income disposal.

I'm fortunate to have my daughter work for me this time of year and I get to see the grand kids 5 days a week. It's not the best money I've ever made but it's certainly the most enjoyably.

Hey, Tony! Sounds like a good time. It's never too soon to get kids pointed down the right road.
My grandkids just went home. One of them actually sat on my bike, but didn't ask to go for a ride. I'm not sure his dad would have let him, so I didn't make an issue of it. He wouldn't even touch it before this year, so I know he's thinking about it.

I actually took my son on his first ride yesterday. All surface streets, and we stopped at McDonalds for an Ice cream cone, then went to Cycle Gear to look at stuff together. He said he absolutely loved it!

I had asked him if he was interested a few days ago, but he seemed really hesitant. After all the previous excitement, I was a bit confused. Then, after a little prying, I found out that his mom had told him not to get on the bike. I told him that she doesn't make the rules about what he does while he's with me (and she never brought it up with me either). After a day of so of thinking, he changed his mind and decided to take a ride. Now he wants me to take him everywhere on it!

The boys have been bugging me for a ride since the good weather got here but I didn't have a bucket their size. Then I got a spam from Bike Bandit about a helmet sale and sure enough they were closing on one color of child size full face helmet. I've been meaning to order new filler plugs for the final and middle drive so it was a deal.

James went for the first ride then Kit sat on the bike and said, "I don't feel comfortable doing this." It's a good start as a couple years ago they cried when I tried to get their pic seated on the bike on the center stand.

                  kids riding

any time my son hears my bike fire up,unless i'm going to work, he comes running out with his helmet already on. my daughters even like to go for rides on it. only the older one wont take a ride to school anymore because she don't want helmet hair. my neices even come over for rides with me. cant wait till i finally get the side car mounted on it so i can take a couple at a time for rides.

My daughter rode with me on the old Guzzi from the time she was 5 until I blew the engine 4 year later. I was without a bike for about 9 years and she still can't wait for me to take her for a bike ride.
