pet cock position?

hi all , dont worry this weather will soon break, ? anybody tell me the right position to have the pet cocks when on a normal ride with full tank of gas? , my 81 spec sh has off--pri--on--res, why?, where sould it be? thanks , mike.

off - shuts the fuel off
pri - prime the float bowls after removing the carbs or running out of gas.
on - normal run position
res - reserve fuel for just before you run out of gas.

Hey carman, the answer to your question is have the little levers pointing DOWN. Reserve is pointing UP. That is on my bike. Garry
