I love compilations of facts and statistics that are not useful for much other than to put things in perspective and make you think. It would be interesting to watch that again in 5 years to see how outdated it seems.
I know this, because Tyler knows this.

              Future

To me growing up with a computer in the house since DOS, the growth of technology isn't fast enough. There is so much more that we can accomplish with technology, it is exciting for me. I can't wait to see what it will look like when my daughter (2 yrs old) is my age (24). She already loves to play on the computer. She likes that it shows her pictures and videos where ever we take the laptop. B.G. is hard for me to remember, I was an early adopter of Google. I am a programmer and seeing the advances is amazing. We live in a time of "I want it and I want it now, and faster".

Makes me appreciate what these "old bikes" can do without all the computer stuff, and thats why i love working on them, simpler times and simple concepts. Air, fuel, spark. If only everything else was that easy.

That's cool!! I had my son come and watch it too. I've been using the internet since I graduated High School, and my son has had his own e-mail address since he was 2. The thought of listening to "short wave radio" has never crossed my mind - In fact I have no idea what that actually IS! I have only ever seen an 8-track player ONCE in my whole life, but my son has never played music on anything older than a CD, and basically sticks to MP3's for that now. I was thinking the other day about potential careers for my kids, and I had to realize that my son's career has probably not been invented yet... Technology has changed the world so much in my lifetime that I can't even begin to imagine what life will be like by the time I am in retirement (30-40 years from now).

Once in a while when I hit 'technology overload' I warm up my '46 Philco phono and throw on some 78's. Sinatra, Glen Miller or Billie Holiday, depending on the mood I'm in.

Kids today don't even know what a record IS! My daughter used to complain, "Dad, how come all your favorite movies have no colors"?

don't matter how far the technology advances, us old farts who can actually do things with our hands will never be redundant. What are the new generation gonna do when the button they push won't work. We are seeing a push down under to get school leavers into trades where they actually learn how to use tools and fix things. Seems to me that we are raising multiple generations that are basically useless unless they can push a button and get what they want. Won't worry me, be long after I'm gone that computer will be able to do my job. Truck driver on over dimensional work. good luck to future generations

Technology has been a rush for me! When I was in high school, the transistor was kinda new, LSI meant 16 transistors in a slab. I learned high math using a slip stick (what’s that LOL). My first calculator did add subtract multiply and divide and percent and cost us $120.00. For many years I worked on gear based on vacuum tubes. I learned to program with Fortran and data punch cards that we fed through a terminal to a remote computer. I have done CAD based circuit board design and CAD based rubber mold design. My company built interface electronics and cables for the SmartCart vending machines that were places in every major airport in the USA and Europe till their company outgrew dealing with a mapa company. My last tec gig was director of information systems for a medium sized Manufacturing plant running Windows computers on a Novel network and a major ERP software system. It has been a fun ride! Not one I would have missed for the world.
The internet - who knew or even could have conceived the power 30 years ago.
Now I am fascinated with old bikes and turning a wrench when needed. I find myself looking for an analog wrist watch as I like what once was.

Yeah, before my ex was my ex and we were still talking she was doing some computer liason work at the University of Manitoba and got kinda lost in the building. Wandering about looking for her guide she came across an IBM1400 set-up just like the one she used to run the payroll on back in the UK. Then the guide found her and said "Whatcha doing in the museum?"
