  • Finally Finished

Well I finally finished my 82 XJ the other day. I spent most of the day riding Saturday. I can't get over the power it has. I really couldn't help myself from twisting the throttle to feel the power it has. I am impressed truly.
I'm a bit hesitant to try from 1st and 2nd do to the known gear problem. I want this bike to last a while(forever actually). I'm burned out on working on it just to get it road ready. Don't get me wrong I don't mind working on it but after months of wrenching and cleaning it's time to enjoy the ride. There are some before and after pics on the link below. Not too shabby for a 200.00 bike. It didn't cost as much as I thought it might to get it ready for the road and every minute/hour I spent doing it was worth it.

            Hey Rob,

Xcellent Job and paint, etc.! Don't be too afraid of 2nd gear, with the XJ's and the 81's, it seems more like 1st tends to go out/start skipping actually before 2nd gear. If it's going to skip, it'll skip, if not then it won't YET!! But it's easy to slowly gingerly accel in 1st or quickly shift thru 2nd to 3rd IF you start experiencing skipping so that you don't have to loose your summer riding time. The Gear fix is a good winter job, enjoy the ride for now.

Outstanding!!! Very nice color and I like the seat too, where did you find that?

Oh, and I think you need to ride the heck out of that thing. Don't worry about second gear, just twist it and go.

                    Larry,,
I found the seat "cover" on ebay. They are priced at 89.99 OR best offer.
I offered 40.00 and it was a done deal. I took about an hour or so. Just used a standard staple gun and warmed the cover in the sun to help it stretch. It was pretty easy to install.
