Yesterday started as what I thought would be a typical day, nice weather, easy 40 min ride to work, good running bike and so on… Around lunch time I checked the weather and just about all of western and central NY had severe weather warning. What surprised me was the speed and the size of the red blob about to consume Buffalo (Im in Corning). Keeping an eye on it throughout the day, I kind of knew it was going to be a close one. So around 4:30 I check the weather online and it was obvious the most severe of it would pass before I got out and I would have to deal with a shower for the ride home. So, I decided to go get my rain gear out of my bag, because there is no sense standing in the rain for 5 mins putting on the gear. As I got outside walking towards my bike I noticed a few odd things… Emergency response personnel down the street directing traffic, flashing lights, tree branches down in the road, garbage cans and cigarette barrels strewn about the place, big ugly black sky (and worst was suppose to be on its way) … And there she was, on the ground, on the right side with someone else’s huge gray Yamaha sport touring bike on top of her. So I rushed over and picked up the grey one then proceeded to get mine off the ground. All the commotion from the weather and being tackled by another bike must of scared her because she pissed her pants all over the place right there on the ground. Then, I consoled her and pick her up and wouldn’t ya know, she let a little more fly and my leg was doused with about a half a cup to add insult. So I do damage control on both bikes and I see the sport touring bike broke the R mirror off and busted up the wind shield, dented tank and some scratches. My bike took it fairly well and escaped almost unharmed. The left side of my bars got tweaked ever so slightly and it loosened my left mirror… Form what I can tell, the wind blew so damn hard that it pushed that wall of a touring bike up and over from the side stand onto its right side clipping the end of my bar and knocking my (also on its side stand) bike over to its right side. In any case, my evening was ruined by that little escapade, my pants too… I took the time to take the bottom off my air box to dump out the remaining fuel and dry the filter. Waited about another hour for the rest of the storm to pass and for the bike to dry out, then started no problem and was on my way. But it doesn’t stop there, noooo. About half way into my commute she began intermittently misfiring 2 cylinders. To make matters worse I was out in the country side far from any main road, so I limped on because they kept coming in and out and I knew the next town was all down hill. So, I made it to the bottom of the hill in town, rolled through a stop and soon as I got into second gear, not even missing a beat they decided to kick back in and about pulled arms off. At that point I wasn’t sure if my coils were bad, if it was because of the moisture, or if tipping it over did anything, and so on. Well I decided since it was running fine I would clime the big hill and head towards home. I made it up the steepest part and in the last leg of the hill it cut out. At about 65 or so it felt like it blew two cylinders but I could tell it was ignition. I turned her down hill and headed around the corner to my cousins house, at least if I needed I could leave it there or attempt to find out what is wrong. Pulled into the garage and told him the above. Went to put her on the center stand and lost the balance and down she went. Here I am holding on as hard as I could and couldn’t stop it. Once it gets to that certain point not much will stop her if you’re on the wrong side, you all know that feeling. Kind of like holding the bow line to the Titanic while she sinks slowly, just let her down easy. So, hahaha can’t do anything but laugh at it all now. Got it apart and noticed a bad connection by the neck of the bike. Must be supply from pulsar..? Fixed that and she ran fine. Its always a bad day when you have to pick your bike off the ground, not once but twice! But, combine that with having to pick someone else’s bike off yours, AND misfiring all in the SAME DAY!!??? What a trip, should have drove the cage to work, I almost did because I wasn’t sure if I had the fuel to make it to work… Next time I will make sure to read the signs! Oh yeah btw, no damage besides possibly bars... Hope you didnt waste 10 mins of your life reading this...

Yea. Yesterday the forcast called for 20% chance or rain, I'll risk it. Got ready to head for home (about 5:00 PM) and walked out to the parking lot. No rain yet, very windy. Wife had called 10 minutes earlier telling me I was gong to get really wet...a storem had just moved over the house. "I don't think you took your rain gear, did you?" she asks. She was right...no rain gear.
Got on the bike, wind was blowing so hard a gust almost took me over the side. So much dirt / dust in the air that I had to flip the face shield down before I began to move.
Got on the bike, started for home. Wind died down, rain began. I was lucky, rain was not that hard and I was able to duck behind the big Vetter and miss a lot of it. Trouble is that it rained for all 56 miles, so time made up for volume. (I commute 56 miles each way.) Got home without hydroplaning (Elite 3 rear, Elite 2 front). Lower legs / feet were plenty wet but torso was OK. Bike is a mess from road grime but she never missed a beat. I carry plastic Zip Lock bags in the saddlebags, had put the billfold, camera, cell phone, and PDA I normally carry inside a couple bags so they were OK.

WMarshy...
By no means was it a waste of my 10 min's, but I do share the pain you experienced. I know that feeling... finding out the wind blew your bike over, and wondering how large the parts list is to get back to square one...
And Jerry...
I now know first-hand just how the wind can blow in Colo. -
When the wind blew mine over in the Hungry Logger parking lot overnight when I dropped my oil pump and had to leave her... A storm came outta nowhere w/ 60 MPH winds, as we were working on her & her parts were all over the place...unbelievable how fast the storms can brew in Colo!
We had left mine on the center stand overnight, thought that storm had passed and was in the clear, but another one occurred overnight, and the Restraunt owner said he found her over on her side...now that's a strong wind. Especially when the bike was left linear to the direction the wind was coming from! Definitely learned to respect Colo. weather and how fast it can change...

Yeah that was good reading, 2am here in Aust and I can,t sleep ( been moving house for a few days with the Ute and trailer but your story reminds me of a couple ofyears ago I bought an Ultra classic electroglide to add to the stable, well I went to church the week after, I put the disk lock from my Triumph on and of course by the time church was finished I'd forgotton about it so there I am warming it up talking to a chicky babe say goodbye and off I go (Almost!) well ! one revolution of the disk's anyway and as I was turning at the same time you know the rest huh? bang! 380kg dry weight and me as well, no hope of holding it so over I go and while I'm hideing my red face trying to lift the dirty bugger back up the chicky babe comes running over too help before I can protest its upright again, aww thanks lady had to go home pronto to drown me sorrows, Yep! somedays it pays to stay in bed.

I think most of have some embarrasing stories like that. There was a thread awhile back where people were sharing them. I knocked mine over in my garage one time while I had both wheels off. Luckily no one around to witness it and nothing got damaged but my pride.Harry

I was walking her into the garage at the end of the day and didn't realize I clipped the stand on the edge of the concrete. Went to lean her on the stand and tipped past the point of no return. That's a heavy bike. At least I let her down easy enough not to dent, scratch, ding, fold, spindle, or mutilate anything...except my pride.

the first, last, and only time I tried to do anything with a bike while soddenly drunk I dropped mine twice in a row in about 10 feet. Ever since that I have a 2-3 beer limit while riding. Not taking that chance.1980 XS11SG
