  • See my controversial new home on video

This is a video that the local public access TV channel made of the Grand Opening of the Tannery Artspace that my wife, daughter and I recently moved into. They interviewed my daughter and wife at length and used a sound bite from their interview with me. You have to look quick to see me.(Hint: I'm the colorful guy in the derby hat and big suspenders.)
I expect this to provoke comment. In fact I’ll be disappointed if it doesn’t. So look, comment, ask, and then when I get time I’ll give you my background comments and perspective.

Old bikers never die, they're just out of sight!

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
    I've been riding since 1959.

Bunch o' dang hippies I tell ya. ED!! The 60's are over, man! lol.

Looks like it would sure beat living in an apartment complex where you don't know any of your neighbors. Plus.. I bet you have no shortage of opinions to how to decorate your place..

            A Bohemian Community?

Okay, I'll ask. This was a tannery that has been converted to studios and apartments for artists by the city? Is it set up to attract visitors and art buyers? Is it a tourist destination? How about giving us some background on the process.
Interesting idea, Looks like fun of the zany variety. Certainly would be worth a visit. Don't think it would happen in my town though. Great hat Ed, does it have a DOT approval ?
I got to get to California sometime!

                  A bit of background......
The peoples republik of Santa Cruz decided they didn't want to pay for the clean-up from a tannery that had been operating for over 150 years. With the large homeless population in the area, they decided to build some VERY NICE apartments and studio's for the local artists. After about 10 years, it was finally open for occupation. They had to hold a lottery, as they had about 700 people trying for the first 100 spaces. Ed and Gypsy spent a night with a few hundred close soon to be friends to get a chance on one of the units.
They hit the winning number, and now have a one bedroom place with a "den". After some wrangling between the City and the State, they called it a two bedroom, and they were in!!
Just so everyone can get an idea of the previous place, The living room in the new place is about the size of the old place! I feel REAL GOOD about Ed and family getting in to this place, as I KNOW it is great for them!

                        Hi Ralphy,
in British slang a "bent" person is a criminal. Perhaps in Australia "bent" has a different meaning?

"Bent" from my time would describe the reporter pretty well.... Loaded might be another description..

Congratulations Ed. Sounds like you really hit some slim odds...

                          Ray,

I found the reporter a bit annoying. Ed, you look like an interesting guy, wouldn't mind buying you a few beers and hearing some stories.
