Welcome! As long as you've got an XS, you're safe here.

There are a few other Aussies on here, so you may be able to locate some local help if you need it. Do you have any pictures? We like to see pictures. Just post on Photobucket and link to them in your posts here. If you need a manual, you can download one from the link in my signature. Glad to have another XSive in the ranks!

            Thanks all,
well, she's not running at the moment needs some wireing done as the last bloke who had her burnt out the CDI box and put points set up on it I have since bought 2nd hand CDI and elect ingnition to put back on app jumps out of 2nd gear but I know the site has the cure for that. I had an XS1100 before an 81 model but I had to let it go (Fully regret that now) Bought the Harley ultra classic for me and the missus only to find she's not so as enthusiastic to ride as i thought, Damn heavy bike that one 380kg dry weight can ya imagine that? pain in the butt to push around the yard but nice on the road. ah back to business I really like the look of 4 into 2 slash cut pipes any opinions on them? Thanks for the welcome all.

Not sure what "slash cut" means, but it sounds like you're talking about removing the mufflers?? Doing that will cause you to loose the backpressure that these engines need to run properly. Some have done some mods that make it work to some degree, but you do have to deal with some continual imperfections.

Post pics by joining Photobucket.com. Once you do that, and upload there, you hover your mouse over the picture, and a drop-down box falls below the picture. Choose the Photo link text and copy and paste it into a posting here. It should already have the IMG links on each end of the text when you do that.

                      G'day Pete,
I'm from Melbourne (Down the bottom on the right of the map on th coast.) I think your right on the exhaust think they call em slash cuts here as if they.ve been slashed with a sword so to speak either way I like em might lose a couple hp but I'm passed the ultra speed bit as too many speed cameras in this state they take the fun outa rideing Ahh just realised your Aussie too where you at mate?

Welcome aboard Ralphy. Yet another CH11 member in this part of the world, were starting to be a significant force here . Great collection of bikes you have, except for the Harleys . I plan on buying a new Triumph America myself later this year. I was in Melbourne recently and drooled over one in Swanston st for a while, might have been yours Hey Cat, slash cuts were common down this way and were popular on XS650's, Triumph Bonnies and Sporty's. They're basically a short chrome muffler cut off at 45 degrees on the end. Fitted so the cut faces out. They look like a chrome cherry bomb, and sound great on a twin. Check them out here. http://www.oldbikebarn.com/Universal-Slash-Cut-Muffler
1980 SG. (Sold - waiting on replacement)

                            Hi Brian,
nothing wrong with Harleys except for being old-fashioned and overweight.
But WTF, so am I. So's the XS11 come to that but at least I can afford to buy one.
North American term for slash-cut is salami-cut or bologna-cut.

You can find pics of slash cuts by looking at any XJ11 that has stock exhaust. The are similiar to the Specials, but they are cut at angle, from top to bottom of the muffler. They look good in my opinion. I have some Jardine Spaghetti pipes with slash cuts on the Bag Lady, and they look great.
