  • Please help!!!!!!!

Hey fellow XS riders, I need your help. I've been trying to find a decent speedo for a 1978/79 XS 1100, you know the one with the round bezel, round
chrome bucket and reads 160 mph. I can't seem to find one within reason that is in good condition. I've seen a few on Ebay that were similar but read 140 mph and 120 mph. Does anyone have any info or an experience putting
an XS 750 or XS 850 speedo on an XS 1100 special. Although I would like to maintain the integrity of the bike, I would consider a slight mod until I found the right speedo. What I don't want to do is put out money for an XS 750/850
that has a black bucket and will not read the speed correctly. I sure can't use another ticket for going above the speed limit. Thanks for your help.....

Hey, Your new here so I'll start with a few friendly tips, if you put the year and style (special or standard) of your bike in your signature it will help fellow members to help you. Also if you use the search function, at the top 3rd from the right you can find that alot of things like this have already been covered.

Finally in answer to your question Yes, a 750 or 850 speedo will work but its not a direct swap, I think you'll have to change some of the wires because the plugs aren't the same. I just read a thread a few days ago about what the changes were, try the search....

If it has round gauges, and nobody has done any swapping, it is a Special. It's probably got a round headlight too, and square mirrors.

        Hi Shadow & welcome,
from personal experience, ANY XS series speedo will work on an XS11.
Right now I'm running an mph XS650 speedo on my Canadian (metric) XS11SG and the odometer reads perfectly. I read on this list that any Japanese speedo at all will work, even if it don't look right.
About the ticket, also from personal experience (5 out of 5) ALL XS series round speedos start to read up to 10mph slow as they get older.
What works in Canada is to tell the cops your speedo said you were only doing the limit. They will sneeringly offer you a chit to get the speedo checked out. Take them up on it. If the speedo proves wrong you still pay the ticket but you don't get the demerits on your licence.
