Highly recommend you replace the float needles and seats. Especially if they are that dirty!

I believe Mikes XS sells them.

Chevy ,will you put what year and model of bike you have in your signature?
It will make it much easier for folks to be of service to you.

If you have the late model carbs(80 or 81) then you probably have viton tipped needles. If you have early model carbs(78 or 79)you probably have all
metal needles.Anyway like DGXSER said you will be much better off replacing all
four needles.Especially if they are viton and they are as nasty as they sound. And it is cheaper to buy kits than to buy just needles from what I have seen.ANd kits will have the needle and seat and gaskets and o-rings for .Some even have new jets.

Sounds like the carbs still aren't totally clean. Not sure what you mean with the variable RPMs though. Does it jump around while idling? If you go back and forth between the petcock settings, do the RPMs go back to the same level again? Usually, the RPMs stay perfectly still unless you pull on the throttle.

unless the diaphragm in the petcock is going bad. in which case the low idle on "on" would be because there is not enough vacuum to pull it open and the high idle on prime would because it is not facing any resistance.

it stays right in that range but i was just out there again and the vac line was not hooked up no it is running just fine on the on position so i fixed that now what it is doing is it idles at about 1000 rpm steady but it has this funny pop and when i turn off the tights to see if there is flame anywhere when it does that little pop there is flame in the vac line going to the diaphragm so then i turned if off and came in here and typed to see what you all think
