    Will a xs 750 0r 850 speedo work on my 1980 sg 1100

  • #2
It will with a little work on the wires. Just need to connect the four wires some how to the connector that the original used. I'm doing the same on my MNS.

I've heard that these ones will work Click Here! parts numbers #03-0675 and #03-0757 they are probably the ones I'm going to get, not that that matters if you find something else that works let me know because the only thing I don't like about those is they don't have a trip.

The larger ones, 2.25", DO have a trip and will work. The nice thing about Yamaha, ANY Japanese speedo will work.

How would you get the 2.25 one to work with out the mechanical cable? Or the Mechanical tack that needs a cable without the cable, I couldn't figure that out, but if there's a way let me know because I would much rather have a trip. I'm a little O.C.D, they would have to be the same size and color too. Yes I'm a idiot.

                Hi Shop,
Obsessive Compulsive is a disorder? Well, the only electronic tach in Mikes catalog is that 1.9" diameter unit and his only trip speedos are 2¼" diameter.
Betcha the 1.9" speedos are just too small to get two odometer readouts inside the case, no matter who's catalog you look at.
Just maybe another catalog has a 2¼" electronic tach?
But if you can't find a matching set how can your O.C.D. let you live with it?
Take calming medications? Not a good thing on the highway.
Persuade yourself that as most modern bikes have non-matching instruments it's OK for you too?
Mount them above one another rather than side by each so they look symmetrical?
Pot the tach inside the gas tank?
Save $65 by not fitting a tach at all?

So would the 2.25 Speedometer work then, even though its not cable driven?

                    Hi Shop,
here's the preamble to Mikes XS speedo & tach page:-

Tach & Speedos sold by Mikes XS are All mechanical cable driven types that use the stock factory cables.

So, yes it will. The only electronic instrument in there is 1.9" tach #03-0675 which is the only tach Mike has that will work on an XS11.
Note that as it works off one of the coils instead of one of the alternator feeds it won't stop working to tell you the alternator ain't charging.

                      Fred,
Thanks that's what I needed to know I emailed them and they never got back to me, I think that my O.C.D could maybe handle one gauge (eye twitch) maybe as long as (eye twitch) its (eye twitch) centered.
                      Thanks Again for your help,
