And, only in America can we have a PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) but no PETP (People for the Ethical Treatment of People)

Save the whales, save the snail darters and save the seals. But if someone threatens YOUR life the police will tell you "sorry, there's nothing we can do 'cause he hasn't actually killed you yet" Insanity.

I have too many rants to bore everyone with, save one. The tipping point will be when there are more voters expecting handouts from the government than voters paying taxes. Stock the fallout shelter and hunker down Ethel. It's gonna get ugly!

EXACTLY! I am trying to get custody of my son but the FOC and CPS tell me that unless the wife beater and suicide case she has watching them while she gets drunk at the bar everynight hurts him I can't do anything. It doesn't matter this scumbag was arrested two months ago he can watch a child. It also doesn't matter that the daycare she had before that was a pothead (no offense) but i don't want somone watching my kid who is stoned!

SAVE THE WHALES! not the children

                    Irony

Here we are, discussing the rights and wrongs of the current trend toward better gas milage and more efficent cars. Members of this site ride an old school 70's muscle bike that doesn't get as good a gas milage as the newer bikes. The bike we ride have no fuel injection, CV carbs, and are only two valves per cylinder. We are happy when we get better than 30 MPG, when we could be riding more efficent scooters. Who are we to judge the rights and wrongs of SUV's?

I could write about 20 pages on this subject but it looks like I would be preaching to the choir. Please everyone next time we vote.Vote for personal freedom and less intrusion of government in our lives regardless of the security you think it might bring to your own.Like Ronald Reagan said"the worst thing someone can hear is I'm from the government and I'm here to help". I think most people purchase a vehicle based on some sort of compromise. Having been in the wood floor business for years. I needed a vehicle that could haul a ton or more of tools and supplies for business, haul trash to the dump on weekends, transport a family to holiday events, and yet not break me driving around doing estimates and minor supply runs. My solution was to have a van for all but the latter and my XS11 for pleasure and doing estimates and supply runs. Such a deal!
My ideal would be to have an electric bike for around town shopping and personal transport, a van or truck for hauling, and my XS11 for tours and general testosterone gratification. But not all of us can afford the insurance and maintenance on multiple vehicles. I propose the Libertarian solution: do what you can afford, and fu!k the bureaucrats!

Old bikers never die, they're just out of sight!

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
                          I've been riding since 1959.

I just hope people see what is going on here.

THIS GOES FAR BEYOND CARS, TAXES, FUEL PRICES. LETS JUST HOPE WE CAN UNITE AS A COUNTRY BEFORE WE ARE TOLD HOW MANY KIDS WE CAN HAVE WHAT THERE OCCUPATION WILL BE AS ADULTS, AND BEFORE THEY START CHOPPING BABIES HEADS OFF BECAUSE YOU HAVE TOO MANY OR THEY ARE THE WRONG SEX. I know it a little on the extreme but you give SON-OF-A-BITCHES an inch and before long they are TAKING a mile.

Well this has been an entertaining thread.

I think the major point most of you are missing is this.......

                                FREEDOM BABY!

It's that simple. Anyone that wants to "PASS A LAW" to force me to conform to their idea of the perfect car hates freedom. Let the free market dictate what cars THE PEOPLE want. The Constitution does not give the executive branch, legislative branch, or the Supreme Court the power to dictate what I drive, what I smoke, what I eat, where I live, etc, etc, ad nauseum. The Constitution specifically outlines the powers of the federal government. READ IT.

If you want the federal government to dictate what cars we drive then YOU MUST amend the Constitution of the United States to reflect this power. Other than that THEY DO NOT HAVE THAT POWER. Oh yes they have hood winked us all for the past 50 years (or longer). They just pass laws and threaten...and people fall in line.

The Constitution of the United States does not give the federal government the authority to dictate CAFE standards. If you want it to then play by the rules...AMEND IT!

The sad fact is we the people have allowed our government to get completely out of control. 90% of the laws the federal government has passed and agencies they've created over the last 70 years fall into the category of being un-constitutional. I submit to you a plethora of examples....EPA, FDA, HUD, USDA, NTSB, FAA, DOE..the other DOE!!! hahaha this tells you how out of control our federal rotten government is. There are actually TWO DOEs!!! There are layers on top of layers on TOP OF FRICKIN LAYERS of bureaucratic BS!

However all is not lost. There maybe hope yet. REAL HOPE. What is now happening in the United States appears to be this: Freedom lovers versus Government lovers are forming ranks. This is precisely why our new DHS Secretary implied that one of the biggest threats to Federal Government are people that take a literal interpretation of the Constitution. You know the same Constitution she swore to uphold and defend? hahahaha....yeah those people...they are now a threat to the ever expanding federal government.

Over the next several years you will see more and more states following the lead of Montana, New Hampshire, Utah, Texas and Oklahoma. These states and about 20 others have passedd laws over the last couple years reclaiming their sovereignty according to the 10th amendment of the Bill of Rights:

"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

This movement has been building for several years. It started LONG before Obama. Obama and his insane approach to endless federal intervention has only served to highlight the need for states to reclaim their Constitutionally guaranteed rights.

I leave you with a question: Who gave birth to whom? Who is supposed to answer to whom? Did the Federal Government create the states? Or did the states create the federal government?

Hang on freedom lovers...it gonna be a wild ride for the next few years. But Mr. Obama may well be the best thing that has happened for the cause of REAL FREEDOM in decades.
