I found another Shell station that didn't sell out to the ethanol lie....
NW 10th and Broadway Ave, Oklahoma city. As of today I paid $2.55/gal for 91 octane....

    Ban Ethanol, it's a lie!!

    Hey Chop,
I wonder if there's a site where you can check which stations in your area still sell pure gasoline?
We all know what a sham that is. I can't believe that in OK, an oil producing state, that you still get that crap at the pump.
I'm particularly interested because it is widely known the damage this fuel causes boats. Some actually experience damage to their fiberglass tanks. Others, suffer from delamination of their fuel lines and premature failure of other fuel supply components. Many a fishing guide I know have horror stories about this problem.

Govt doesn't care about that stuff. You can't get gas without the ethanol in it in California, so we are stuck with crappy gas that eats our fuel systems up.

They started using ethanol in the early 80s, at which point manufacturers changed their products to be compliant to ethanol. Anything that deteriorates with ethanol was obviously not designed to handle it. Boats can and probably are manufactured to tolerate ethanol. My dad's old spray plane had a fiberglass hopper and it held solvents that were much worse than ethanol. Never had a problem with any of them.

I have never seen a case where ethanol attacked an aluminum piece. If this were so, beer would not be sold in cans. Think about it, really.

Clogging filters? Alcohols are a great solvent, and I would venture to guess that ethanol does more to clean the MTBE and other additives out of filters than harm.

I dont care for ethanol either, but fighting the greenies lies with more speculation and lies only give the environMENTALists more ammunition.

Why do I not care for ethanol? The corporate government uses it as a way to subsidize farmers, which ruins profitability. If Farmers could have a free enterprize market, this would be different and I would burn ethanol despite my following dislikes.

Ethanol has a low energy density. A gallon of ethanol does not produce as much power as a gallon of gasoline. Therefore, it detratcs from mileage.

Ethanol doesnt burn any cleaner than gasoline, contrary to popular belief. The additaves and the atmosphere contribute more to pollution and incomplete combustion than the fuel. In a pure oxygen atmosphere with a pure hydrocarbon fuel, the byproducts would be carbon dioxide and water. Thats it. Start adding MTBE, 26% nitrogen, gunk and a plethora of other crap and you start seeing NOx, CO, Sulfites and all kinds of junk.

Ethanol will absorb an equal amount of water. If you get 10% ethanol, chances are you have close to 10% water in your fuel. Talk about a double whammy. Water gets 0 mpg. It carries watersoluable crap that causes havoc in our engines, changes the density of the fuel and is just a pain. IIRC the reasoning behind the initial addition of alcohol into fuel was to deal with water in storage tanks.

Make no mistake, I to do not like ethanol in my fuel. My engine is not set up to burn it. But, it isnt set up to burn diesel either, or acetone, propane, CNG or Baccardi. If it were set up to run ethanol, gasoline would cause a whole new set of problems.

I dont think we should like ethanol, but I do think it is high time for a reality check about what alcohol really does. Fighting lies with lies never works. In this case the truth is suffifient.

Hope I havent stepped on anyones toes here.

Etoh which attracts the water molecule oxidizes the aluminum at a much faster rate than etoh itself. Etoh attacks the carbon bonds in some of the more basic rubber compounds Like older carbed engines and fuel systems. (check your butterfly shaft seals if you disagree) Etoh also speeds the gelling process in fuels that is why it has such a short shelf life. Almost every aluminum can is lined with a thin walled polymer to preserve the beer from reacting with the base Al. Etoh is only good at 10% concentration in Red Stripe IMO....
