Riding 55-65 MPH 200ft. from the Atlantic

I had no idea you could ride at these speeds so close to the Atlantic.
Today BikerPhil, Mighty Eleven and his SWMBO, and I rode from Jupiter, FL to the south side of the Ft. Pierce (FL) Inlet hugging the coast as much as possible.
This made for an afternoon ride of about 130 miles RT, but not including the 80 mi. RT these folks rode to get here. Very nice when the temps are hovering around 85 degrees and you end up riding under a tree canopy sometimes.
I opted for this route because most of the rain typically falls west of I-95 this time of the year, today was no exception. And it was the most scenic route. I had never led what turned out to be a mini-rally and it felt good to know a good time was had by all. Especially since it was XSessive ride. Phil rode his 79 special, Mighty rode a 79 std, and I rode my 82J maxim.

Must be nice! Here, the temp struggled to get to 59 with 20-30mph winds & light drizzle! Keep tellin SWMBO we should move to a mobile home in Florida. I'm tired of this 10 months of winter and 2 months of bad sledding. She just gives me that look like I'm crazy or something. Keep thinkin I should have got a yammy snowmachine instead.

Jupiter is such a nice place. There's a restaurant right there on 1A along the ICW, just south of the big bridge that goes over the ICW. Wish I could remember the name but it's on the right if you are heading south, part of a small plaza. Best Buffalo wings I have ever had. They put garlic chips on them. Man, those are good!

I use to love taking the family over to the State Park on the south side of Jupiter Inlet too.

If you continued up the shoreline road, there's a beach north of Jupiter called, "Blowing Rocks". It got that name because of the caves in the coral...when the tide comes in, the waves crash into these caves and end up shooting out of holes much like a whale spouting water and air. Some would shoot approximately 20 feet into the air.

I went there one day and watched Spinner Sharks leaping from the air something like every 45 seconds. Not something you see very often in other parts of the country. They leap out maybe 4 or 5 feet and spin through the air, something like what dolphins do when playing.

Sounds like a good day to ride over there...101 in central California today, although our Pacific Coast Highway ride in a month should be just about right.

Saturday ride

I have driven all those roads before in pursuit of fish, and actually most of them from the waterside or getting to fishing spots. Yet had never drawn a bead in my head to make a riding route. Glad it worked out as it did. I enjoyed it thoroughly myself since I had never done it before. Actually I really enjoyed leading you folks through this awesome part of FL. It was a priviledge and a pleasure for sure.

DJinNH - Yes, this area is awesome, one gets to see things rarely anyone gets to experience on a seasonal basis. I think the restaurant you're thinking of is Charlie's and Blowing Rocks is an incredible resource. One day after a hard day of fishing we anchored off BR for lunch, and after lunch and a few cold ones I jumped in the water for a little snokeling and to cool off. Well, wouldn't you know it, in the rock beneath the boat there was a hole with a couple of lobsters and after a little chasing they became dinner!!
Caught a few of those spinner sharks as well, very good eats. Almost like catching a sailfish, as far as the aerobatics are concerened. You need stout gear and a heavy leader to land them, but their steaks are awesome on the grill.
Actually, this felt like the first XS Rally in Florida. Too bad we didn't bring a camera to share with everybody else.
We'll do that with the upcoming "Round the Lake" ride to happen within the next month. (Before it gets too hot). I've been threatening to coordinate a ride with the FL exessives around Lake Okeechobee for the past two years and we need to do it before the summer heat gets unbearable.

Re: Another source of pride

Another source of pride from this ride is the fact that we rode with the '79F I sold to Mighty Eleven. As you may recall, I bought this bike not knowing what the compression was, or any thing else for that matter. I figured since the price was right, if nothing else I could part it out and get my $ back on cheapbay. Well, with BikerPhil's help (and Andreas' help and others whom supplied parts) I was able to bring this baby back to life and restore it somewhat to its original configuration and avoid that untimely fate. Glad to see another XS out there providing joy to another new XSessive!!
