I pass thru K.C. quite often (in my 18 wheeler). Very confusing freeway system IMHO. I try to go thru between midnight and 5 am.
I usually stay in Kingman KS for my last stop before my destination in Mt Sterling IL. Probably be thru again in the next week or so.Pat Kelly

Kingman is only about 35 minutes from me. Give me a shout some time and I will ride down there to meet up with a fellow XSive. There is a pretty decent used bike dealer there called Bobz Bikz that has some good finds. He even pops up with an XS11 every now and then.Ich habe dich nicht gefragt.

I park across the street from Bobz. 1st time I walked in there I was greeted by a Vmax.
I will call. Sometimes I'm there for the day, sometimes the night. I run out of hours allowed to drive (11 hours in a 14 hour period) and have to take at least 10 hours off before I can drive again...... legally.Pat Kelly

You might want to stay on Hwy 30 til you get to Ames, then south on I-35 to K.C. Might save a bunch of wear and tear on your bike. It's rough from Iowa City to Des Moines. There's a stretch on I-35 from Des Moines south to the state line that is very rough also. Hey Ivan, I'm just west on 61 from you.'81 XS11 LH (MNS)

Wow, i wasn't expecting such a response, but ftr i am moving there for two months-ish and am originally from there so maybe i could show you some places as well, Winterhawk i'd be glad to hook up and work in the shop with you, what happened to merriam, i've been gone for six years? which parts of k.c. does everybody live in because i'll be in the lee's summit area? (greenwood to be specific). thanks for the awesome response and i think we might have to get a nw mo, ne ks rally together. i know of an awesome blues bar that would be a perfect end to a long day of riding.Whoever coined the phrase livin' the dream forgot to mention whether it was a good dream or bad dream.

The way I understand it is, after Bob Jones passed, Merriam Cycles closed up shop. They now sell a few things on e-bay here and there.
Though I'm on the East side of MO, I would love a chance at a Rally in MO sometime! Arkansas was a bit far, especially before I got my fairing Now, a trip to KC doesn't sound bad at all! All the XSives in the KC area make me jealous, since there's only a couple of us here in St. Louis.1980 XS850SG - Sold

i was kinda thinkin the middle of july-ish, if you have any dates that wouldn't be good let me know. i'll see what i can do to find good areas to ride and a good start and stop area. if you have any route suggestions lemme know and i'll pass the word around. as far as you north k.c. guys i'm sure we'll have a chance to get together and for bug any time you wanna come up you're welcome i can find just about anything that you might be interested in, just lemme know what you'd like to see or do and i can point you in the right direction. if anybody is interested one of my favorite bars is b.b.'s lawnside bbq in south k.c. live music and cajun style bbq. not the best neighborhood but nobody really messes with the crowd there. it's at 85th and troost. outstanding blues and bbq. without the over expensive k.c. bbq price.Whoever coined the phrase livin' the dream forgot to mention whether it was a good dream or bad dream.

Well, I tend to avoid bars... Never actually stood in one longer than to realize it was a bar, then turn around and walk out. Don't mind bbq though. Anything other than the weekend of July 18th is fine for me. The weekend after that (7/24-26) would actually be ideal. I have no idea what exists over there, except for corn fields, so I'll have to depend on you guys to plan any sight-seeing.1980 XS850SG - Sold

i could certainly understand where you're coming from, the place i speak of is primarily a resteraunt that eventually becomes a bar at night. after the kitchen is closed. we can certainly find other places or even possibly someones house. if anyone has suggestions please let me know and we'll see what we can figure out.Whoever coined the phrase livin' the dream forgot to mention whether it was a good dream or bad dream.
