        SWMBO and I did a bit of research on this a few years back, trying to find something for her that would work, and would be comfortable for extenden periods. It sounds obvious after the fact, but it turns out not everybody's ear canals are the same. Doh! It took a while, but we found a brand that was available in a wide range of types, and more inportant, in a variety of sizes. We found a style she liked, a size that fit, and bought a box of 200 from a local safety/industrial supplier. IIRC, the box probably cost no more than about $30.

          I have one of those really cool sets of ear muffs that will block out a diesel generator running at full speed from 5 feet away, but with the push of a button, I can listen to someone speak from 2 - 3 feet away and still not hear the generator to loudly. Only problem is they definitely do not fit under my full face. But truly, the full face is a GREAT hearing protection in itself.

            I ride with a full face but after riding 250 miles yesterday, I wish I would'a had ear plugs. My ears were ringing at bed time... Next long trip Im going to use a pair. Around town isnt a big deal but you get out on the highway and travel an hour+ at 65~70 mph and the wind beats on the ears a little.

              Good to know. I have a little plastic tube that has a pair of the disposable ones in it, clipped to a little chain. I think I'm gonna toss that in my bike toolkit.

                  I am sittin here wondering about you guys and your ear plugs, and relized my ears are still ringing from a ride in some hefty wind yesterday on Little Mo. I don't notice a problem when riding the Timemachine. The Windjammer and a full helmet make for a comfortable ride. I will have to try some!

                    I'm not sure, but I think my fairing and fullface make the exhaust louder in my skull.
                    When I had the 4-to-1 on, it set up a harmonic ringing at 5K that about drove me nuts. Like when you get a tooth drilled, only 4X louder!
                    I had to put in ear plugs and have used them since.

                      I'm going to be honest when I heard about the ear plugs from the Doc I was skeptical at first, then I gave it a try and I like it for any thing over 35 mph I don't think I would do it for in town driving. It is definitely the wind noise causing the hearing loss. I tried it on my other bike (below) and you know it's not loud. Here she is, a real roaring lion. And yes it will do over 60mph.

                          Talk about Dejavu, I learned to ride on one of those . They scare the hell out of me now.

                                Way back in 1976, there was an article in Road Rider magazine about wind noise induced hearing loss and ear plugs. The wife and I had a pair of custom molded earplugs made that contained a sonic valve. When the noise level rose above (I think) 45 db, the valve would close. At the time, they were $20 a pair. I used those plugs on every ride until I lost one, two years ago. At the motorcycle show in LA, I had new ones made for both the wife and myself. They don't have the valve and are just custom made plugs. They work very well. I do get a loud thrumming beat when I ride with my faceshield open above about 45 mph. I have entered into correspondence with the manufacturer to see what they might be able to do about it.

                                I am also in the process of installing Chatterbox communication systems in mine and SWMBO's helmets for bike -to-bike communication. I am hopeful that the plugs will not be a problem, but we'll see.

                                I have worked in loud industries, am currently regularly in a woodshop that has 5 HP saws and jointers and planers, all of which are loud. Iwear earplugs there, too.

                                I would recommend that everybody needs to wear earplugs when they are around loud noisemakers (small children and yapping dogs included).
