    Oh-oh

    Yesterday when I was out testing my carb adjustments and pulling hard in 2nd gear it jumped out of gear.I pulled in the clutch and it went back in by it self.I tried it several more times and it shifted perfectly and held under full load.Did I just miss a shift or am I in denial?Also if I need to start thinking about the 2nd gear fix I would like some opinions on replacing the gear vs repairing it.

    No experience with second gear problems personally, but that sounds like you need the second gear fix from what I've read.

      It is possible if you shift very quickly, you will not get complete engagement of the gears, and it can, and will jump out. Just goes to show the right hand is quicker than the left foot.

        The thing that you have to consider when thinking about buying new gears, is that 2nd gear and 5th work together and 1st and 4th work together. I've never seen a problem with 3rd, but 4th operates that one also. So buying just say... 2nd gear.. won't fix the problem if indeed that's what it is. You'd have to buy both 1st/4th together, and 2nd/5th together which is pretty expensive.

          Sounds like a mis-shift to me. I wouldn't worry about it until it starts happening on a regular basis.

            Its time to do the fix when it shifts its self from second to third under power. Thats what mine did. Also would about break the tarsal bones in your foot if you tried to force it in to second. Sounded like an M16 firing too.

              Early repair

              First, I agree with the others that is sounds like you missed a shift. Almost every time I ride it happens to me once. I get lazy about lifting that shifter all the way and it ends up in neutral. I have to give it a little gas to rev up then shift into second or it sounds horrible going in. These things do shift like a well used tractor!

              The gear issue usually shows up under power more so than right when you shift, at least it did for me. I could shift fine and when shifting between 2-4k RPM I never had a problem out of it. But when I chose to run the revs up and shift it for accelleration, it sould skip in and out of second every now and then, and go back in when I let off the throttle. I fixed my second gear issue before it got bad at all. And I would think it makes the gear grinding alot easier if you do. JMHO
