    Glad to see you found this forum, and I hope you are enjoying the bike! It was one of the "once in a lifetime" finds,and the bike ran VERY well. You may want to pull the left crank cover and look at the pick-up coil wires. Yamaha crimped the wires a little tight on the '78's, and the 1&4 coils would have problems because of it. All you need to do is loosen the "crimp" so the wire will just slide a little bit. That should keep the bike running well for quite a long time.

      Thanks for the info. My father actually found this bike for me after I said I was wanting to buy another bike he also own a 1980 XS1100 which has owned for 29 yrs and I've learned to respect and love the XS1100.
