  • Walking (Working) on Hallowed Ground

Last weekend, trbig and I, along with the help of Montreaux Blue, pulled the engine on a fellow members bike to overhaul the starter clutch. The member, Toolaxe, lives in New Orleans, and he trucked his bike to my house to be have Tod and I do the work. Well, mostly Tod. In the past he had trucked it to Merriam Cycles to have Bob Jones work on it. Just having my hands inside the same crank case as Bob, well, you understand.
Tod did all of the repair work. I just helped with removing everything that needed to come off before the engine could be pulled. That's where Montreaux Blue came in. He helped grunt the engine out and back in, and helped with the repairs while I was wussed out lieing on my ice pack. I couldn't help there because of my back.
Tod replaced the starter clutch, changed 5 of 8 shims, did the washer swap for second gear, went through the carbs, synched them and changed all fluids. Kat did a bunch of polishing/shining on it also. This bike, an 81 SH was in very nice shape and quite clean. What a joy to work on... a clean bike. Duane picked it up today and was very happy with the work, and said that if he had any more major work to be done, he would like for us to do the work.
Made me feel good to hear that.

    Well Done

It certainly is exciting to be where one as revered as Bob Jones has been. I think he would be proud to know that his work, knowledge and memory lives on in all of us here at Ch.11...so to all of you Well done!

Had a similar feeling once at Cape Kennedy when I stood on the launch pad where Alan Shepard launched from. Kind of gives you that holy feeling.

      Another member from New Orleans????

Once you un-can a can of worms, the only way to re-can them is with a bigger can.
